Horse Haven

I posted recently about how I love when organizations get together with brands to allow individuals to donate to great causes in unique or fun ways. Horse Haven is a game with a good cause standing behind it. Basically, it’s a facebok game where you take care of a horse by making sure it gets fed, brushed, exercised, etc. You earn points as you go, and for a limited time you can purchase special angel acres items which benefits an organization called angel acres horse haven rescue that fights against horse slaughter. All of the angel acres items cost facebook credits instead of the games “money” system.

We have two computers, one is less than a year old and the other is roughly 5 years old and was the cheapest computer we could find new at the time. Needless to say, it’s slower than our new computer and is a pain for playing videos on and often times doesn’t work very well for games either. I was happy to find that horse haven works nicely on both of our computers.

I think the game would be greatly improved if they either made it easier to earn money, or started players off with less quests. Almost all of the quests that I was given early on required way more “money” than I had which was frustrating. I found that the quickest and easiest way to earn money was by having compost bins which generate $100 every 15 minutes, and you can have multiple compost bins. However, if you aren’t online to check the bins then you don’t get the $. So if you log on twice a day, you can only collect the $100 twice. So ideally you’d be able to log on quite often. Still, you need a few thousand dollars for many of the quests like buying additional horses, upgrading the trailer so that you can travel to competition, etc.

Otherwise, I have been enjoying the rest of the game and think that young girls who are interested in horses would really enjoy this game. It’s pretty simple to figure out, given that the quests tell you what to do and how to do it. The game is easier to play if you have people on your friends list who play as well, but in the 4-5 days that I have been playing I haven’t been “forced” to have friends or share things on my wall to move forward. I appreciate games like horse haven that don’t require facebook sharing or friends to play, as I don’t like to spam my friends with game requests.

I have a hard time believing that you have not been “forced” to have friends or share things on your wall to move forward. I have played the game since closed beta and to get your buildings going, hire friends to work in stable stalls or in buildings (like the bakery) you are reliant on friends. Not only that but lots of friends since only one friend can have one job on your farm. Compost bins are a a horrible way to have to make money, and now they use energy to use. I dont’ think this game will do well with the changes. I have since stopped playing and will never recommend it to friends.

Again, for anyone that reads if this post gets lucky to be shared is you do need friends to play, and you do have to spam walls to get help.

As I mentioned I had only been playing for a few days but I never published anything to my wall. I was thrown several quests at once (I assume everyone gets the same quests?) and just did whatever i could afford to do at any given time instead of focusing on one quest at a time so perhaps because I was only going a little ways in each quest instead of focusing on one that made a difference? I was also given 10k in game cash to play the game for the review so maybe that helped but I don’t really think so seems how I ran out of money anyway.

I didn’t realize that you can have people work on your farm to earn money I thought that it was either do tasks like the petting zoo or train for races or else do the compost which is why I said the compost is the quickest way.

Good things to know, anyway for people considering the game I appreciate your comments.
