Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen are two very amazing individuals who had the brilliant idea of starting a series of books that would touch on a wide variety of subjects that are both near and dear to our hearts. This all began in 1993 when they came up with the perfect name for something that makes us feel as good emotionally as grandma’s chicken soup made us feel when we were children. Yes, they name the book series “Chicken Soup for the Soul”.
Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen are not the only authors in this series of books. They often either co-author a book with another expert or witty writer, or they hand the pen to someone and let them author the entire book.
For my review, I received a book written by Dr. Suzanne Koven of the Harvard Medical School. This book is entitled Chicken Soup for the Soul “Say Hello to a Better Body…Weight Loss and Fitness for Women Over 50”. Since I’m not even in my 40’s yet, I presented the book to my Mom (who is in her mid 50’s) to asked her to share her thoughts with me so I could pass them on to you. These next paragraphs are in her words.
Oh my gosh….I love love love this book. Every page, every story and every chapter could have been taken out of my own life. Laughter truly is the best medicine and you will do a lot of laughing when you read this book. I don’t mean to make it sound like this book is just one joke after another because it’s not. Some serious subjects are touched on in this book. …but let’s face it, we’re never going to be 20 or 30 again (nor would I ever want to…once was plenty, thank you) so we may as well like who/what we are now and be nice to ourselves.
Our actions, lifestyle, thoughts and the way we treat ourselves are being watched by at least one other generation (our kids) and most likely two or three generations if we’re blessed to have grandchildren and great grandchildren. Let’s be examples and show them how wonderful it is to be able to lift that little bit of loose skin off the back of our hands….
Trust me….do yourself a favor and read this book….whether you’re sitting in a rocking chair, riding your recumbent bike or jet setting off on a new adventure.
Chicken Soup for the Soul is on facebook and twitter.

Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
