Simply Potatoes is a brand that makes potato products including mashed potatoes, hash browns, diced potatoes, etc that are found in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. I’ll be honest – I had never purchased refrigerated mashed potatoes before so I was curious to see what the texture and flavor would be like. My store carried two varieties – traditional mashed potatoes and garlic mash potatoes so I picked up a couple of each type.

One day for lunch I wasn’t home so Ryan decided to heat up a package of the mashed potatoes to eat plain. They are really easy to prepare, you simply pull back the plastic film in one corner and then put the container in the microwave for 3 minutes. We found that with our microwave the outisde edges were hot but the bottom of the middle was still pretty cold. So we removed the film, stirred the potatoes and stuck them back in for a minute and that did the trick. Of course, your microwave may vary. Ryan enjoyed the garlic variety and was surprised at how many potatoes come out of one package – it’s definitely too much for one person.

Last night we decided to try and spruce up the potatoes by adding soup. We simply heated up the potatoes in the microwave, and then heated up a can of soup in a bowl in the microwave. Then we divided the potatoes into two bowls, and poured half the soup over each bowl. Preparation took less than 5 minutes and we were both stuffed after the meal was finished. This is a great, convenient meal for those busy weeknights. Ryan typically steers clear of canned soup but he was content with this meal so I consider that a win.
