Here in Michigan we have cold winters with lots of snow. We figured out a long time ago that the best type of winter coat are duck coats. Nothing else compares to their warmth but they also tend to be really durable, lasting for years even for people who are really rough on their jackets. My dad always buys duck jackets and wears them outside while cutting wood for his wood stove, taking care of his small farm & doing other yard work and his last for several years.
Minnesota Workwear is an online store that sells a variety of work clothing from brands like Dickies and Carhartt for men, women and children. Ryan has been wearing the TJ345 Dickies Sanded Duck Hooded Jacket. This jacket is available in two shades of brown and a black and comes in sizes Medium – 4XL. Ryan was sent the Timber shade in an XL and it fits him well. It’s shorter in length and smaller than a duck jacket that he had from another brand but we think this jacket is true to size and the other was larger than average for an XL.
We’ve had some pretty cold days here already and Ryan’s Dickies Jacket has held up to the cold really well, never leaving him feeling chilled. Ryan said that he feels this jacket is more breathable than his other duck coat, as the other one felt like it blocked out 100% of wind and this one doesn’t, but it keeps him warm anyway. I think part of this could be due to the shorter length in the jacket, so air gets up under it when bending or moving around.
The inside is lined with quilted nylon and the inner left side has a pocket. The chest area has two pockets that zip closed. These pockets are fairly thin but roomy. Of course, there are also two external pockets on either hip. The waist band has some elastic to it so it stays tighter to the body than the rest of the jacket. This makes it easy to fit a normal length hoodie under the coat that ends just above the waist band of the coat. Ryan likes having the option to layer up underneath the coat in case he plans to be outside for long periods of time on certain days. The zipper seems to be really high quality as the entire zipper & zipper pull are larger than you’d see in other coats and just seem really sturdy.
I think this coat will last at least a few winters, making it well worth the cost. Right now, this jacket is $70.95 at Minnesota Workwear. It would make a great gift for the man in your life this holiday season. They also have items for women and children.

It does look warm – I probably wouldn’t get it for hubby, because he likes a coat that is longer.

I like all the extra pockets, and looks nice and warm.

We live in a super cold climate and my husband loves his older duck jacket. I might need to look into one for my or the older boys as they are rough on coats.
