With the quality of digital cameras increasing so quickly, the size of the photo files that we save to our computers are growing as well. I would hate to guess how many photos I take on a monthly basis and save to my computer – tons! Most of you are parents meaning you probably take way more than me, even. If your computers internal storage isn’t very large, you can run out of space to keep storing more photos.
Ryan is great with computers and regularly fixes ours when I break them. However, I’ve heard so many of my friends and family members talk about how their computers died and weren’t fixable and all of the photos that they had saved to the computer but not to Facebook or other sites, were gone forever. For most of us this would mean hundreds and even thousands of photos that are devastating to lose.
Seagate’s Backup Plus is an external hard drive that works much like your typical external hard drive with some great bonus features as well. If you just want to store files so that you don’t clog up your computer, it does that great. We had been using a really old external hard drive that had to be plugged into the wall for it to work, so we’ve loved how that it’s unnecessary for the Seagate Backup Plus.
The backup plus goes above and beyond those normal functions though. If you’re an active Facebook or Flikr user, you can set the backup plus to automatically backup the photos that you add to those sites. In fact, it’s the first external hard drive with that capability!
The Seagate Backup Plus comes in three sizes, 500GB, 750GB or 1TB. The device comes in four colors (silver, red, blue and black) and is very portable as a result of its small size. It’s not far off size wise from my smartphone so it can be tossed in a large pocket, a pocket in your laptop bag, etc and taken with you wherever you go.
The backup Plus works with both Mac and PC. If you have both, you can even switch back and forth between using the backup plus with both computers.
Despite having more features than other external hard drives, it’s priced really competitively. Right now it’s $79.99 on Amazon. It would make a great holiday gift for tech-loving men, photographers or just casual photo lovers.

It is so important to back up your computer! I had been saying I needed to for a while and then my computer crashed and I lost a ton of stuff! This is a fabulous backup drive that I highly recommend!

I need one of those! My computer is a few years old, and I worry that it will crash on me soon!

Backing up my photos is so important to me too! I love what you said about Ryan fixing your computers when you break them, lol! That’s what my husband does for me too. Thanks for the review – I really like Seagate and it’s great to know of another good product from them. 🙂
It’s so important to have a back up like this. It would be awful to lose all my pictures.
