You know that feeling of walking into a small store downtown that you’d never been in before. You’re greeted with a smile and notice that the store is calm and quiet. The cashier makes small conversation with you about the weather, your children – upcoming holidays. You look over a product that you are uncertain of, so you ask the store worker if she happens to know the answer. You aren’t really expecting her to know but she answers you and even goes above and beyond about making you familiar with the item. She really knows these products and is passionate about sharing them with you. You find an item that you fall in love with and have never seen anywhere else before so you buy it and leave. As you open the door to get into your car you think “Man that was so nice.”
That experience is one that can only come from shopping at small stores. It can’t be found waiting in line on black Friday at 3am at a mass merchandiser. It’s just never there.
Brilliant Sky Toys and Books is a small chain of toy stores with a total of 15 locations in the US. They pride themselves on making it their job to make you have an enjoyable shopping experience. They want you to feel comfortable to explore, enjoy and interact.
This year, Brilliant Sky Toys has put together a list called the Brilliance Award list which features 7 toys that they feel are excellent toys. I was sent one of the Brilliance Award toys which is the Boogie Board. The Boogie Board is a really creative, open ended toy that is aimed at ages 8+. It’s a paperless device that lets children write or draw using a stylus, their finger or most anything else that can be used to create pressure onto the board. If you want to start over, there is a button that clears the device clean. The boogie board is small and lightweight so it’s easy to transport. I think that the boogie board does a great job of symbolizing what brilliant sky toys is all about – creative, innovative toys that are playful, creative, educational and unique.
You can check out the map of store locations to see if there is a Brilliant Sky Toys near you. If there isn’t you can still shop at Brilliant Sky Toys online. The holiday shopping season is huge for small stores as each dollar means so much more. I’d really encourage you to consider shopping at Brilliant Sky Toys this weekend or in the coming few weeks. They have toys for Newborn through 12+.

This product sounds like something my toddler would love. Wondering what it looks like in real life though and how clear the contrast is?

I love shopping at small businesses now and then. You can usually find some awesome items you wouldn’t see in large chain stores!

I find so many more different products when I shop with a small business that I can’t find in our big department stores. I like that Boogie Board, very unique and something every one in the home could use. I also like their Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker they have on their website.
There is something wonderful about shopping at a small business focused on customer support. We used to have a toy store like that near us, but it closed. BTW – the Boogie Board is so much fun, my mom got one last year and she loved it 🙂
