My daughters, ages 3.5 and almost 6 years old, love reading books. We have built quite a little family library over the last couple years. One of our favorite children’s book publishers is Candlewick Press.
When they first began, twenty years ago, Candlewick Press offered children’s picture books. Today, they offer everything from board books to eBooks that are suitable for the youngest of readers all the way up to young adults.
For our review, we received four Christmas books from Candlewick Press- “Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List”; “Christmas at the Toy Museum”; “Just Right for Christmas” and “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse”.
Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List takes you along as Peppa Pig and her brother George prepare for Christmas. My youngest is about the same age as Peppa and George. She enjoyed reading along with them as they wrote notes to Santa, chose a Christmas tree and decorated for the holidays.
Christmas at the Toy Museum shows readers what happens on Christmas Eve night when the museum has closed. My oldest enjoyed this book. She has been asking about museums lately and wanting to visit one. She recognized that Christmas at the Toy Museum was sharing the lesson that it is better to give than to receive.
Just Right for Christmas shows how a little bit of red, soft, Christmassy cloth can bring joy to a lot of people through sharing. This was my favorite book of the four we received. I think the holidays are a wonderful time to remember all the blessings in our lives and share them with those who are less fortunate. It can be something big or something as simple as a piece of fabric.
The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse takes you on an adventure as a little mouse leaves his country home to explore a new big city. This is a neat story that encourages you to step out of your comfort zone to try new things…even if it means realizing what you had to begin with was the best thing for you.
Candlewick Press is on facebook and twitter.
Who are you buying Candlewick Press books for this holiday season?
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.
