I’m a pretty frugal person most of the time but something I don’t mind spending money on is a great book. I love Ripley’s books because they are perfect for boys who are of the personality to tend to be reluctant readers. If you know a boy in the 6-14ish age range who likes to be outside, has tons of energy and loves weird or “gross” stuff – you’ll definitely want to learn more about these books.
Last year I did a Ripley’s believe it or not unbelievably true book review. My nephew loved it then and I’ve babysat him a few times this year when he’s drug the book back out to look back over. So when I had the chance to check out a new Ripley’s book called Ripley’s Download The Weird, I jumped at the chance. Like their unbelievably true book, it’s quite large and heavy with a thick cover making it super durable. The pages are full of rich photos of unusual sites and unbelievable facts. The pictures alone can steal hours of your time just browsing over them and the text scattered throughout explains what you’re seeing.
Most pages cover several different weird or odd things with a few paragraphs about each one. As a result, this isn’t a book that yo need to read from cover to cover or even from the top to the bottom of the page. You can browse through, find an image that stands out and then read about it and then skip over 5 pages, etc. This makes it feel less intimidating to children. They can sit down and browse for as long or short as they wish, making the experience more in their control and enjoyable.
Connect: You can connect with Ripley’s on Facebook and Twitter.
Buy it: Available on Amazon for $18.30 right now.
