Most of you probably know by now how excited I get when I discover unique toys and games for my daughter and the specialty stores that carry them. I just found a new store recently called Imagine Toys. The store is based in Michigan and products are tried and tested by their team (and their children) before being added to their shelves. This means you get the best of the best. Not only that but they also strive to offer novel items that you don’t find in every other toy store.
This is a small selection of the products that you can find at Imagine Toys.
For this review, I received a set of Ants Go Marching Wooden Blocks. The set has 16 blocks measuring 1.75 inch. There are made of sustainable Michigan basswood. I prefer wooden blocks to plastic ones because it’s a natural material with no chemicals in it. Also, because they use sustainable wood, the impact of the environment is minimal. Of course, like all blocks, they are great for fine motor development and hand-eye coordination. My daughter has just started to stack blocks and she finds it hilarious when the tower comes crashing down. These blocks also allow kids to use their imagination and create whatever they like, no plans to follow, no specific end-result in mind.
But it doesn’t stop there. Instead of the usual alphabet or number design (which is fine but expected), each block features ant trails. There is also a block with an ant queen and another one with a spider. By the way, the ink used create the ant trails has not heavy metals in it so it’s safe. Each side of each block is covered in marching ants so for older children, they can now try to arrange them by connecting the trails of ants. It’s not as easy as it looks! There are so many combinations possible, it’s a new challenge every time.
I even thought that when my daughter is older, we could play a game inspired by Domino where we would each start with say 4-5 blocks and in turn, try to add a block by matching its ant trails with at least another block on the layout. If you can’t find a match, draw another block. The first person to play all of their blocks wins.
I like how one game can last through time and adjust to a child’s development. First, it’s all about fine motor skill and hand-eye coordination, then it’s about imaginative play and building structures, and finally, it’s about observation skills and reasoning. That makes Ants Go Marching Blocks a truly well designed and well thought out game.
I’m really happy that I found Imagine Toys. Their selection is truly great plus they offer free shipping on orders $79 or more! Head to Imagine Toys if you’re looking for thoughtful and original toys. Don’t forget to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for all the latest news and promotion.

How cute are those? This is one of my kids’ favorite songs and they would think those blocks were so fun.
Looks like she is enjoying those blocks. 🙂
