I received products from SolScents for this post. All opinions are my own
Summer is in full swing, and so now it’s more important than ever to keep our skin protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Luckily SolScents Sunscreen makes it easy to do just that, with a line of sunscreen that not only provides broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, but also smells great!
As Richie L. Lin, MD, board-certified dermatologist advises, “Moderating sun exposure over your lifetime is probably the single best thing one can do to slow the aging process. If you can prevent it from happening, you will be ahead of the game.”
So here are 5 tips for keeping your skin safe and protected during these hot summer days!
Apply Sunscreen
This one is a no-brainer for most of us. However, many of us do not truly know how to use sunscreen properly. Not only do you need to pick a proper sunscreen, normally at least 15 spf or higher is recommended, but you also have to apply enough sunscreen. Most people do not use enough sunscreen, most only use about 25%-50% of the recommended sunscreen. Source: Dermatology.com. You need to apply sunscreen liberally enough that a small film is formed on the skin. Also keep in mind that sunscreen takes 20-30 minutes to absorb, which means it should be applied about 30 minutes before sun exposure.
Growing up, I knew a lot of kids that did not like to wear sunscreen, because they didn’t want to smell like sunscreen. SolScents has a line of Scented Sunscreen that doesn’t smell like sunscreen at all, it actually smells great! Now there’s no excuse not to wear sunscreen!
Re-Apply Sunscreen
Even waterproof, sweat-proof sunscreen still comes off over time. It is recommended to re-apply sunscreen every 2-4 hours of sun exposure, and should be re-applied after you swim, towel off, or after any excessive sweating.
Wear Protective Clothing
Wear loose, light clothing, particularly ones with indicated UV protection.
Wearing a hat can also go a long way to keep your skin shady and protected. If applying and re-apply sunscreen isn’t for you, opt for a wide brim, protective hat, preferably not a baseball cap, as that leaves your neck and ears exposed to the sun. A hat doubles as protection for your skin, as well as protection from glare for your eyes.
Wearing sunglasses is also a great, stylish choice for keeping your eyes protected. Most sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and sun glare.
Avoid Sun Exposure From 10AM-4PM
From 10AM-4PM and particularly at the middle of the day, the sun is at its strongest and directly overhead. This is prime time for getting hit with UV rays. While this can be hard to stick to during the summer, at least try to stay in the shade during these hours. Staying in the shade will not only keep you cool, but help you stay protected as well.
Stay Hydrated
Drink water, water, water! This is important for you and especially your children. When playing out in the sun, you need even more water than normal. Make sure to take water breaks, and don’t wait until you’re thirsty! During these hot summer days, if you’re out in the sun you should have some water every 30 minutes. And try to avoid ultimately dehydrating caffeinated drinks, or sugary juice and sodas, water is always best!
This summer, my go-to sunscreen for keeping me protected in the sun has been SolScents Sunscreen. I am incredibly pale, and I slather on sunscreen like no other. However, I get sick of smelling like sunblock all the time. So SolScents Sunscreen has been a great option for me!
I tried out the Angelica, Flower Blast, and Raspberry Dreams sunscreen and lip balm. Angelica is spf 30, and Flower Blast and Raspberry Dreams are spf 50. All their lip balms are spf 15.
All SolScents Sunscreen are Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB protection, they moisturize your skin with skin nourishing antioxidants, and have a nice, light fragrance. This sunblock absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily or greasy. Since using this sun block, my skin has felt nice and soft.
I’m very sensitive to fragrances, and have really sensitive skin, and this sunscreen not only did not bother my skin, the scents didn’t bother me either. The scents are not super strong, which is great when you’re slathering a lot on, like I do! I really found myself liking each scent. The Angelica has more of a perfume scent with passion fruit, lily and rose hints. The Flower Blast smells just like that, a blast of flowers. The Raspberry Dreams smells just like you’d think, like Raspberries. The lip balms smell similar to the sunscreens, but with more fruity tones, which make them much more pleasant on your lips. They’re also very nourishing to your lips, and feel great!
I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my SolScents Sunscreen. People always comment on how great it smells and ask me where I got it! SolScents Sunscreen has made keeping my skin protected extremely easy this summer! You should check out the SolScents Sunscreen Website if you’re interested in getting some for yourself! And follow these tips to stay safe during these sunny summer days!

Great post! It’s almost summer time here in the Philippines and I’m glad I’ve come across your blog. Thanks for sharing these helpful tips, I no longer have to worry about getting sunburnt.
I’m still not used to seeing SPF 50 and 90 in some sunscreens. I grew up with SPF 4 or 6, lol. I love the smell of sunscreen, especially the coconut scented ones. I’d like to give one of these a try too.
