Eyebuydirect is a website that offers tons of prescription eyeglasses, that you can purchase online for very reasonable prices. By reasonable I mean as low as 7.95 before shipping. Quite impressive, right?
I was sent a free pair of glasses for the purposes of this review. I was a bit nervous about selecting glasses online, because you can’t try them on. However, they have the an ‘eye try’ program that lets you upload a photo of yourself, and then select a pair of frames, that is placed over your photo to give you a better idea of how the lenses will look on your face. I used this tool and found it to be pretty neat!
I knew that in the past, in local eyeglass stores, I have had a hard time finding glasses in the adults section that are small enough for my face. However, eyebuydirect allows you to skim through glasses based on their size (small medium or large) which allowed me to select ‘small’ and only browse the smaller frames. I knew that the frames ranged by a few MM in size, in the ‘small’ area but I didn’t think it would matter much, so I selected a frame that I most liked, plugged in my prescription and sent the order.
Two days later, I was sent the “your order has been received” letter, that was dated for that day. I ordered the glasses around 2pm, so I thought maybe they would use the ‘order date’ of the next day, but for some reason it as even the NEXT day. So although I selected 10 day shipping, they arrived in 12, based on the date they selected. I was glad that I still had my old glasses, because I couldn’t wait almost two weeks for a new pair if my old ones had broken. So I wouldn’t suggest using this company if you are without glasses and are dependent on them. I’ve heard that some local eyeglass places take even longer than 2 weeks, but I personally have gotten my glasses within 4-5 days of the order, when going to my regular eye doctor, but of course I was paying double or more of what these cost, too! Lots of things to consider.
When the glasses arrived they seemed quite large for my face. Here’s a photo of me in the first pair of glasses
Although they aren’t huge, I didn’t like how the lense extended past the edge of my face (you can see this really well on the left side of the photo). Also, it doesn’t show overly well, but the frames had a slight angle to them, so that the outside edges of the top of the rim is higher than the nose bridge, and the very edges of the glasses overlapped my eyebrow, which looked silly.
So I decided to return the glasses (eyebuydirect allows you to return glasses one time, with no penalty or fee other than you have to pay to ship the items to them, and then they ask for a small fee to cover shipping on the way back to you). Also what’s neat about this program – is they send the returned glasses to an organization that sends eyeglasses to the needy! Such a neat way to make use of the glasses that didn’t work for someone else.
Anyway, when I went to re-order I looked at the size of the glasses based on the millimeters across the front. They only varied by six or eight MM, but I ordered the smallest possible. Also, because a lot of the problem was how the lenses overlapped my eyebrow, I also took note of how “tall” the lenses were. Instead of placing a new order, I was told to select a new pair and tell the customer service rep which ones I wanted. The customer service rep placed the order for me, so I am unsure of when the order was placed, and never received an order confirmation email, but there was sixteen days between the day that I emailed the customer service rep, and the day the glasses arrived. A little frustrating.
However, when the new glasses arrived they fit MUCH better and I am very pleased with them overall. Both pairs of glasses that I was sent felt very sturdy, not at all flimsy, which is a concern I had because of how cheap they are sold for – I figured they must cut the quality to cut the price, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case.
