As I’ve mentioned before, we are slowly becoming more green, but only when it makes sense. We aren’t throwing out the old just to buy new, but instead slowly starting to buy green when things need replaced. Michigan’s weather has finally started to realize that summer is coming, and has been warming up. At least the last week or so has. The week before that felt like February. Anyway, we like to fish, and went fishing for the first time of the year on Monday. I had been sent some sunscreen from Ecomom (previously called sproutbaby) to test out.
The sunscreen is SPF35, and is suitable for everyone, from 0-150, as the box says. It’s “Free from the bad stuff like additives, parabens, and petroleum” and includes organic ingredients. It’s also made in the usa – another bonus :).
So although this sunscreen sounded great, I’m always hesitant with eco-friendly and organic items, to see if they will really work just as well as the products I’m used to relying on. So instead of trying this out on a kid right away, I decided I’d feel better checking it on myself first, just in case it didn’t work I would hate to have accidentally allowed one of my little ones to get burned.
We went finishing Monday for the first time this year, and were outside in the sun for about four hours straight. We didn’t go out on the lake in a boat, but we were just off the shore so I thought it would be a great time to try this out. It comes in a tube similar to a lot of lotions, and is a thick white color when spread on, similar to most any other type of lotion. I did notice that there’s almost no smell to it, though when I intentionally tried to smell it I could.
I only applied the lotion once, seems how I didn’t get in the water at all. I didn’t get burnt at all, so it definitely seemed to work. I would be very comfortable using this on a child now, and would feel much better about it seems how I’m not rubbing yucky chemicals all over them. The sunscreen does say it is water resistant, but also says you should reapply it after water-play, like any other lotion.
Overall I’m really pleased with this sunscreen and would recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to sunscreens that have harsh chemicals.
