While on the Ohio tour, we got to stop and check out the Toledo Art Museum. The museum is free to the public and is quite large. We only got to see a portion of the museum, you could easily spend the majority of a day seeing the whole thing. What we did see was very impressive, although I admit I am not well educated as far as art goes, all I can really say was I enjoyed checking out the various pieces. In addition to having an impressive selection of art, they also offer classes for little kids up to adults. We were able to peek into a couple of classrooms that were full of all kinds of supplies and there were kids art projects all over. The entire museum seems very child-friendly. In fact, we saw more children while we were there than we did adults. Now through January 8th there is an exhibit called the Egypt Experience which features more than 150 objects from Egypt that tell bits of Egyptian history over a 3500 year span. Included in the Egypt experience is two mummy’s. Definitely a unique experience. The Egypt experience is separate from the rest of the museum and does require payment to get in to see. Another unique program offered at the Toledo museum of art is called meet me at TMA. This program happens once a month and is designed specifically for people who are in the early stages of memory loss and their family members.
Across the road from the main art museum is the Toledo glass pavilion. There, you can sit and watch one of the daily demonstrations of glass blowing. We didn’t watch the whole procedure, but we caught the majority of it and it’s definitely neat to watch. It’s impressive to watch the demonstration and how much time and effort it takes to make a pretty basic piece, and then view the glass pieces that are in the museum. It really makes it obvious that the pieces in the museum take an insane amount of effort and skill. The Toledo art museum is a really neat piece of culture that Toledo is lucky to own, it’s a great resource for people in the area with children as well. I wish that my area had a quality art museum, but I’m thankful that we can easily make a day trip to the Toledo art museum seems how we don’t.
Disclaimer – We were provided with access to the Toledo museum of art, the Egyptian experience and the glass pavilion. No other form of compensation was offered or accepted. All opinions are my own.

You are lucky to have been able to visit these places. Museums are special places and unfortunately not always close enough to people who would enjoy them. We always try to visit them on our vacations.

I found the Toledo Art Museum very inspiring when we visited on a high school art history class trip. Glad you had a nice visit!
From the time I was 4 years old until I graduated from high school, I took Saturday classes at the Toledo Art Museum. Students had a chance to learn about all of the art in the museum, and then go make their own! I really feel lucky to have grown up in a city with an art museum of that caliber. (I lived in Los Angeles for 10 years and, I have to say, I never found a museum that compares!)
