The Comforts of Home by Jodi Thomas is a wonderfully written story about a group of people who live in the town of Harmony, Texas. Each an every citizen in this small town is faced with a myriad of challenges and things that they want to accomplish. There is the funeral director Tyler Wright who desperately want to take his relationship with Major Katie Cummings to the next level but doesn’t know how to do it without driving her away. And Reagan Truman who is taking care of her foster father, Uncle Jeremiah who is ill and dying. As if this isn’t enough she is the center of attention for two men, her best friend, Noah MacAllen, who is a lost rodeo performer, and Brandon Biggs, a town firefighter. And there is Ronelle Logan who had been the victim of abuse by her mother who never speaks until she is faced with the town recluse Martin Winslow who is also physically confined to a wheelchair, these two work to bring each out out of their respective shells. And lastly there is Denver Sims who wants nothing more than for Claire Matheson to commit to him as he is committed to her. They all are going about their daily lives until a huge storm hits the town and each and everyone one of the players to face what they really want out of life.
This is the third book set in Harmony, Texas but by no means do you need to read the first two to enjoy this wonderful tale of love, frustration, change and growth. Jodi Thomas does a wonderful job of winding the lives together and really putting together a story that you can’t put down. I high recommend this book as it is a refreshing story in an unique Texas town. Jodi Thomas provides a writing style similar to Debbie Macomber in that she is a master at winding together many different character stories into one collective and cohesive story line that leaves you wanting more of these lives.
Now a word from Jodi Thomas herself.
As fall settles in around the Panhandle of Texas, I’m getting excited about THE COMFORTS OF HOME coming out Tuesday, Nov 1, 2011. My favorite time of year is fall with the cool nights and sometimes rainy days. The perfect weather to curl up with a book.
Since the idea of a small town of Harmony first began to form in my mind, I wanted to write about not only the ‘important’ people in a place who make the community run, but also about the quiet people who live their lives and get lost in their dreams. COMFORTS is a book full of possibilities in love and life. Read it on a cool winter day and I promise it’ll warm your heart.
I had a great time writing this book and hope you all will enjoy the journey through this story with me. Step into Harmony and enjoy THE COMFORTS OF HOME.
