My little sister, at 8 is much like I was at her age in that she has an interest in taking care of animals and babies. As a kid I remember having a particular interest in animal based video games and she now enjoys modern video games that are themed around caring for pets as well. There are tons of video games out there that allow children to virtually feed, groom, play with and exercise their virtual pets. Wappy Dog takes this concept and takes it to the next level. While the ds game allows your child to take care of and play with their dog on their DS, it also comes with a physical robotic dog that reacts to the actions that your child takes on their ds. For example, you can use your ds to tell wappy to go to sleep, to say hello, or to sing a song among other commands. You can also ask wappy questions such as “what should we do” and he’ll respond on the ds with an answer such as “lets play target practice.”
There are also lots of minigames that your child can play on the ds and wappy will respond as you play. When you compete against wappy in the minigames and he loses, he’ll react by acting sad. Or if he wins, he gets excited. There is a travel mode which allows you to play the ds based version of the game while not having the physical wappy dog around. However, the ds still keeps track of your game progress so that once you return home and turn the physical Wappy Dog back on, all of your progress will still be there. Overall this is a really neat toy that my sister has enjoyed a lot. Right now it’s 40% off on amazon, making it just 29.99.
