82% of parents make sure their kids are wearing sunscreen when playing outside. While only 32% of parents have their kiddos protect their eyes form the sun with sunglasses.  For years we have heard about the importance of using sunscreen to help prevent us from sun damage. For our review, Real Kids Shades sent us an assortment of sunglasses in the Flex, Flex Duo, Xtreme Sport and Xtreme Element models. My two Daughters and Nephew (2.5 years old and two 5 year olds) were more than willing to help out with this review; they couldn’t wait for me to get the box open!

The Flex and Flex Duo styles are traditional sunglasses.  All three kiddos really enjoyed having sunglasses like their mom/dad. My Nephew, Gage, felt like a “big guy” wearing these shades while riding in the car or hanging out in his stroller. However, they all had some difficulty keeping them on when they were extra active.

The Xtreme Sport and Xtreme Element models comes with adjustable neoprene bands that keeps the glasses securely in place while kids are playing, running, jumping, or whatever other actions kids can possibly make throughout the day. The older kids were completely comfortable with the band wrapped around their head, and they stayed in place during a fairly long day at the park. The shatterproof and impact resistant lenses put my mind at ease when they were climbing and chasing each other through the grass – I had no concerns that the glasses would break, creating sharp edges that could harm their eyes while they played.

All the sunglasses stood up to the tests that a toddler and two preschoolers could put them through. They were not-so-gentle when they tested them; they ran them through different testing facilities (bike riding, tree climbing, rock walls, swings, soccer, etc.) and various levels of activity; the kiddos concluded that Real Kids Shades were cool and comfortable!
