For more than 50 years Medela has been designing products to aid Mom’s in breastfeeding their babies. While Medela believes breastfeeding is best for baby, they know that breastfeeding can be tricky for some Moms. Medela wants to help Mom and support them in their breastfeeding journey.

When Medela designs a new product they research and consult with lactation experts to make sure they are developing a product that will fit a breastfeeding Mom’s needs and wants. Over the years Medela has become a favorite brand for many Mom’s and health care officials. For my review, I was sent a Medela Calma bottle and a Swing breastpump.

One of Medela’s newest products is the Calma bottle. Calma is designed specifically for breastfeeding babies. Medela went to great lengths to design a nipple that mimicked Mom’s so that baby would continue their natural feeding style and be able to transition from breast to bottle with little or no nipple confusion. With the Calma, baby’s feeding rhythm must create a vacuum to extract milk, the same way it does when breastfeeding. When baby stops for a breath, the vacuum and milk flow will also pause making for a comfortable and relax feed. Calma has one size and shape of nipple and can be used for all stages of breastfeeding.

The Calma nipple has a design and feel that I have never seen on any other bottle; I really like that the nipple is vented to help reduce Gassiness. Because baby controls the flow of milk, the Calma bottle will not leak. I think the Calma might just be the perfect bottle.

Medela’s Swing breastpump is the smallest and lightest of pumps. The Swing is a portable single electric pump. It comes in a drawstring bag, with AC adapter (also runs on batteries), two BPA-free breastmilk bottles one with a nipple and one with a travel/storage lid, a bottle stand and the compact and easy to use pump. The Swing has a belt clip and neck/shoulder strap for you convenience.

The Swing Breastpump is about the size of a woman’s hand; it is a nice portable size. The pump is pretty quiet compared to other electric pumps. I think the Swing Breastpump would be the ideal pump if you were transitioning back to work and needed to occasionally pump in the restroom or a lactation room, whichever the case may be.
