Jennifer Scalise is a young single mother of three children. Her life is much like any other single parent’s. There are joys and struggles, hardships and rewards. One of those rewards is a vacation with family and friends. However, during that fun filled and exciting vacation, Jennifer experiences something that no parent ever wants to even think about experiencing….the loss of a child.
Brooke was just 12 years old at the time of the accident in 2009. She was a cherished, beautiful (inside and out) daughter who brought joy to everyone she came into contact with. She thought of others before herself. She was full of the energy, dreams and aspirations that every typical soon-to-be-teenager has. Then something totally unexpected happened that would change the dynamics of her family, friends and even people she hadn’t yet personally met in a way that no one would have ever thought possible.
As part of Brooke’s Mom’s (Jennifer) healing process, she authored a book (A Mother’s Journey of Love, Loss and Life Beyond). Jennifer invites the reader to join her family on what they anticipated to be an amazing vacation full of fun and adventure. We experience, thru Jennifer’s words, all of the events that led up to their choice of vacation destinations. We are introduced to everyone on the vacation in a way that draws the reader into the vacation vicariously.
A Mother’s Journey is by no means a “pity party” for Jennifer and her family. It is a tribute to Brooke and to the lives she touched prior to the accident as well as to those lives that she continues to touch to this day.
You can find Jennifer on her website, Facebook, and twitter pages.
Hello, my name is Laurie. My family and I live near the Oregon coast. When we aren’t at work, in school, or on the volleyball court, we enjoy traveling, cheering for our favorite sports teams, playing outdoors, and checking off items on our bucket list. We are lucky in that both sets of our parents, as well as our siblings and their families, live within an hour of us. We get together often to help one another out, celebrate milestones, and go on adventures together.

Sounds like a beautiful tribute
