As a stay-at-home mom, I tend to make 3 meals a day with the freshest, healthiest ingredients I can find. You would think the kids would enjoy this fact. But kids are kids and when all of their friends have snacky stuff in their lunchboxes, they feel a bit left out. I  have historically refused to buy those prepackaged meals-on-the-go that are so popular in kids’ lunchboxes. That is, until I was turned on to GoPicnic. They have a great variety of on-the-go lunches and even offer vegetarian, vegan, Kosher and gluten-free options. It is important, though, that the customer reads labeling as not ALL of the meals are gluten-free. GoPicnic was generous enough to send me 2 packages for review.

I received The Turkey Stick + Crunch and the Tuna + Crackers. They both had elements some of my kids liked and the other’s didn’t. We opened the boxes as a special after-school snack and each took a bite or two of everything. The turkey stick was popular with each of my kids. The tuna was not popular with any of them. They like tuna but did not like the lemon-pepper flavouring. Everyone thought the Pop-chips BBQ Potato chips were some of the best they had eaten and my oldest really enjoyed the Sweet Perry Orchards Baja Blend Fruit & Nut Mix. He said it was addictive. With the habenera almonds and mongo cranberries, I had to agree! I squirreled the Endangered Species Dark Chocolate Square off to the side for myself. It was truly decadent. Just don’t tell my kids! They got a bit of sweetness, too, with Sweet Perry Orchards Unsweetened Applesauce which each of them enjoyed. No one like the Crunchmaster crackers, but we knew that before since we had tried them previously. That was fine, because we had crackers we did like on our shelf. I look quite forward to trying the Hummus + Crackers. At only $3 it is really a good deal and I am a sucker for hummus and dry-roasted edamame!

Their packaging is recyclable and their products are shelf-stable for up to 3 months. Both of these things are important to me.  I also liked that there was a sudoku puzzle printed inside for a little bit of fun on the go. I certainly plan on purchasing these again. They can be purchased online or you can check their website for a store in your area that carries their products.

You can also check out their facebook and twitter pages for more information.
