Phase 4 Films is a full service independent studio that started in 1996 and has been releasing high caliber features films and television series throughout North America using all methods of media. Many of these films and TV series have “special interest” content.

The kaBOOM! Entertainment label is one of Phase 4 Films’ most recognizable labels in the children and family genre. kaBOOM! Entertainment was established in 2000 and has been responsible for the release of such episode hits as: Max & Ruby, Franklin and Chuggington. The True Story of Puss ‘N Boots and The Adventures of Young Doctor Dolittle are two of their highly successful full length animated features.

For our review, we received the movie: SMITTY, Everyone Needs a Friendly Paw. Mira Sorvino, Peter Fonda and Louis Gossett Jr. star in SMITTY. Wow, what a movie. We had three generations sitting around the TV watching this. There was a 5 year old, a 30 year old and a 56 year old. The only one not crying at some point was the 5 year old and he was full of questions throughout the entire movie. He wanted to know why the 13 year old star of the show was acting the way he was; he wanted to know why Mom didn’t hug Grandpa, he wanted to know why, why, why…which I thought was great because it meant he was paying attention to the movie.

After the movie, he was full of more questions. Instead of answering them, we asked him what he thought the answers were and more times than not, we found that he knew and understood exactly what was going on in the movie even if he hadn’t been brought to tears like the older viewers. He commented about how the boy should have acted and treated people, what he would have done if he had a dog like the one in the movie, and made a few other comments that were directly tied to what was going on in the movie. I don’t want to give away too much of the movie so will let you watch it and see for yourself what some of the lessons were. Not only did the 5 year old learn about how to treat people (including himself) and animals but the 30- and 56-year old viewers also got reminded about life’s journey and some of the ups and downs along the way.

I highly recommend SMITTY…for any age. You can find SMITTY and all the other Phase 4 Films on their website.
