It’s been pretty hot here in Michigan and I’ve been so thankful for the SF-1479: 14″ DC-Motor Energy Saving Stand Fan that I’ve been testing out. It is your typical floor standing fan that has some neat features that set it apart from the rest. One of the downsides of trying to keep cool in the summer is the extra electricity costs. This fan is designed to be an energy saving fan, and compared with its (very similar) “sister’ fan that isn’t designed as an energy saver, it uses 37% less energy. The fan arrived needing to be assembled and was a bit intimidating when I laid out all of the pieces. However, it was incredibly easy to put together, requiring no tools but instead everything just twisted or snapped together. Unlike most similar fans, this SPT Fan allows you to adjust its height (a button is found midway down on the fan) making it suitable for use in different areas. It has the ability to oscillate or stay stationary (the button is found behind the head of the fan). The head of the fan can be tilted into four different angles by pushing on the head of the fan. It has 3 speeds, an on/off button, a timer option and a sleep mode (all of these options are found on the base of the fan). The timer option allows you to leave the fan on for a set amount of time, and then have it turn itself off. When turned on, its automatically on the slowest speed setting.
The sleep setting sets the fan to turn itself off after 4 hours. If you have the fan on high, it will run on high for 30 minutes, then medium for 30 minutes, and then low for the remainder. If its on medium when you turn it onto sleep mode, it’ll stay on medium for 30 minutes and then the rest of the time on slow. These features can be adjusted using a small remote control that comes with the fan, as well. It’s the exact same shape as the indent on the base of that fan where the buttons are, so it can be placed right in that hole while not being used so you can keep track of where it is.
I appreciate how the fan is light weight, making it easy to move from one location to the next. I also appreciate how the fan isn’t incredibly noisy. While it does make some noise, it isn’t a distraction or annoyance like some fans. Yet, it is efficient and blowing out large amounts of air despite being relatively quiet. I love all of the features and functions of this fan that make it so easy to adjust to your preference. The only thing I would improve on this fan is the end of the cord is large and heavy, and because the cord isn’t very long, we’ve had problems with the fan coming unplugged from the combination of the cord being stretched as far as it will go, and the weight of the base of the cord. For all the features of the fan though, it’s certainly worth having to replug it in every now and then.

Thanks for sharing this Emily. We’ve been propping fans in our bedroom and living room to cool the rooms, thanks to our Texan summer temps. I have to get Hubs to look at this one too.

This fan looks awesome. My house is so hot upstairs we have to have TWO fans on. My look into getting one of these!

This is great to know, especially with the insane summer heat!
I am in need of a new fan for our bedroom. The one we have now is LOUD and I would love one that swivels.
