Lullaby Earth is a company that makes two crib mattress options: the Super Lightweight Crib Mattress, and the Super Lightweight Crib Mattress 2-Stage. Both mattresses are designed with a focus on health and safety. According to the Lullaby Earth website, the mattresses are constructed primarily of food-grade polyethylene and are free of polyurethane foam, vinyl/PVC, PFC, antibacterial treated fabrics, known allergens, and questionable fire retardants. The waterproof outer cover and the lack of seams help to defend against bacterial growth, while the firmness of the mattresses provides a safe sleeping environment. As the name ensues, both mattress options are designed to be very light weight, making bed preparation that much easier.

For my review, I received the Super Lightweight Crib Mattress and noticed right off the bat that it is in fact very light weight. I was able to hold my daughter, Jordyn, in one hand and put the mattress in the crib with the other.

I also took note that the crib sheet that I had on the previous mattress fit much more snugly on this mattress. I had to do some serious stretching to get it to work. It’s both thicker and firmer than the standard mattresses that I’ve had in the past, which I appreciate. The thickness makes for a secure fit inside the crib; the mattress does not shift around at all and there were no gaps around the edges. The firmness of course put my mind at ease because it is doing its part to help prevent suffocation. Jordyn is a fairly good sleeper, and switching to this mattress did not impact that at all.

The surface of the mattress definitely feels waterproof, so I was able to remove the mattress pad that I had on top of the previous mattress, which made for a more comfortable sleeping surface in my opinion. The waterproof pad tended to bunch up and I constantly had to smooth it out before I laid my daughter down for a nap. Jordyn has put the waterproofing to the test several times, and I was very satisfied with the outcome; I was able to wipe the mattress clean with soap and water, with no remaining wetness or odor.

I feel good knowing that the mattress that Jordyn is sleeping on is free of possibly harmful or irritating materials or chemicals. She does not have any allergies that I know of, but I feel that this mattress would probably work out well for babies that do suffer from allergies due to the outside of the mattress acting as a dust mite and bed bug barrier. And being the earth conscious mom that I am, I am very pleased that this mattress is recyclable. The mattress came with a limited lifetime warranty that covers any defects due to materials or workmanship for as long as you own the mattress, which is a nice added touch.

If you are in the market for a new crib mattress, I suggest you watch the Lullaby Earth video; this is a wonderful product!
