At almost 2 years old, my nephew Drew loves to spend tons of time outside. He watches other kids swing on regular swingsets and wants to join in. A few times I have propped him up in a regular swing and pushed him really softly so he only goes forward a few feet before coming back but he isn’t able to stabilize his body very well so I always have to be ready to catch him on a moments notice. I knew that a toddler swing would be a better option for him so we were excited to check out the thomas the tank engine swing from Jakks Pacific.

Drew isn’t familiar with the thomas the tank engine show, though many boys his age would be. Despite not recognizing the character, he liked that the swing was a train and he loved being able to swing higher in this swing than I feel comfortable letting him go on a regular swing.

If you’ve ever taken a baby or toddler and an older children to the park then you probably found that older kids tend to want to try out the baby swings too. While the Thomas swing is only recommended for kids between 9-36 months of age, it has a weight limit of 50lbs and larger feet/leg holes than other toddler swings so that children with larger feet won’t get stuck like they do in most baby swings at the park. Because the leg holes and the base of the seat are at a 90 degree angle, it’s a bit difficult to get larger children’s legs out of the swing because they are so much longer than a toddlers, but it’s doable.
