Wiggle is an online sports equipment store that started out selling bike parts and accessories over 10 years ago. They have expanded to become UK’s #1 online cycle shop and UK’s 5th most popular online sports shop! They also ship to over 70 countries, including the US and Canada. Their products now include everything from bikes, running shoes, swimwear, bags, sunglasses, and everything in between! From their humble beginning, they keep their outstanding customer service and pride themselves on being ‘the kind of company that we’d want to deal with if we were you’.
Not only do they carry all the top brands, including Castelli, Asics, Muzino, Garmin, but they have also developed their very own brand of sports equipment called ‘dhb’ after the initials of its 3 founders. I was lucky enough to receive 2 dhb products: an dhb Ladies Chevron Air Short Sleeve Jersey and a pair of dhb 8cm Light Weight Socks.
The short sleeve jersey is an amazing product and was definitely designed with performance and functionality in mind. It is made of nylon and polyester with a bit of Spandex. The fabric was treated with a special finish which ensures that perspiration wicks quickly to the outside surface of the fabric so it dries very fast. It was also treated with Sanitized, a product which reduces the development of bacteria and therefore of odor.
What does that mean? Well, after working out outside on hot day, the jersey didn’t feel wet and didn’t stick to my skin. When I touched it, it was slightly humid in places but not uncomfortable. In a few places such as under my backpack straps, you could see that the fabric was wet because perspiration couldn’t evaporate. Within 15 minutes after my workout, the fabric was pretty much dry again and there was no odor. In fact, unlike most of my sportswear, I didn’t feel the need to run home and change because I didn’t feel yucky at all (for those of you who wonder, I did still shower and change when I got home!)
The jersey comes in either black and white or fushia and white and has a distinctive chevron pattern on the sleeves which I love. It as a has a full length YKK lock down zipper which means even if you pull it down a bit to cool yourself, it won’t unzip by itself. This is definitely a nice feature when you’re going down a hill at full speed!
The fabric is super light and soft. There is a discreet mesh under the arms and also along the back which allows for more ventilation. I say discreet because it’s basically tiny holes in the weave of the fabric, it’s not see through at all. The jersey is long enough that you don’t have to worry about showing any skin even when you bend down. Actually, they made the back side is longer than the front and they even added an elasticated hem with silicone grip to make sure the jersey stays well in place, and it does!
This jersey also has 4 pockets! There is a central flapped pocket on the lower back which is nice for small items that you don’t want to lose such as your iPod. I actually put my keys in that pocket and wasn’t worried about losing them because the flap is quite large. There are also 2 large vertical drop pockets on the either side of the flapped pocket. The fourth pocket is a side zippered pocket along the seam of one of the vertical pockets. If you have small valuables, that’s where you’d safely store them.
The socks are also very well designed. They are ankle socks and the upper part is about 2-2.5 inches above my ankle (I specify because when I read ankle socks, I usually think the upper part will be right at my ankle.) They also offer a 14cm sock if you prefer a higher rise sock. They are made of polyester and cotton with a bit of nylon and spandex. They stretch nicely and don’t leave red marks on my skin but also stay in place.
They come in black with either gray, green, or purple accents. The heel and toe cap are gray on all models and reinforced for more durability. Around the arch of the foot and all around that portion of the sock (between the 2 color strips), you can see that the weave is different to provide more arch support. Just like the jersey, these socks are also designed to wick moisture away from your skin to the outside of the fabric. Since my shoes aren’t all that well ventilated, I could really appreciate this feature because my feet got hot! Again, my feet didn’t feel wet though the socks were slightly humid. It was way more comfortable than regular cotton socks and again they didn’t smell.
Given how well designed dhb products are, it’s not wonder to me that the brand is now popular around the world. Even competitive riders have adopted their products. If it’s good enough for them, it’s definitely good enough for all of us!
