World Vision is one of the best known humanitarian organizations. They’ve been helping children, families, and communities for over 60 years. They are involved in over 100 countries and help millions of people.

During the Holiday Season, World Vision has a special Gift Catalog. In this catalog, people can find unique gifts such as a goat, chickens, ducks, etc. Obviously, these gifts are life-changing for those in need who receive them because they provide milk, cheese, eggs, etc. There are also gifts of clean water, clothing and shelter, education, support to girls and women, etc.

As you can see, these gifts are quite different from the usual book or tie in the sense that they provide people in need with something tangible that will truly benefit them for a long time and change their life. What I like the most about the catalog is that you actually get to choose how you want your money to be spent. I think it makes the act of giving to a humanitarian organization more concrete. Each cause is definitely worth supporting and you can be sure that your money will be well used no matter which cause you choose to support. As a matter of fact, World Vision uses 86% of the money they receive to support programs (5% goes to management and 9% to fundraising).

World Vision also celebrates talent by offering a great selection of items made by people from around the world. You can find those items under the ‘maximum impact’ section. There is a great variety of products organized by price. There are jewelry items, clothing, plush, water bottles, dolls, etc.

For this review, I received a set of hand-carved serving spoons. They are made of olive wood by Kenyans and the proceeds are use to help orphans of the Kamba tribe in Kenya. They come in a nice gift bag of African fabric hand-sewn by local women. I was surprised by how detailed the spoons are, especially with the twisted handles.

I think World Vision’s gifts would make great presents for the Holidays. They show that you care not only about the person to whom you give the present but also about those who are less fortunate. I’m also thinking about getting a few more products for myself because they are a great reminder that we are fortunate and we need to help those are the world who don’t share our fortune.
