As a kid, I enjoyed video games but had a hard time finding ones that were aimed at girls or even gender neutral. I’ve always been a big fan of puzzle type games of all types but was rarely able to find any as a child. Thankfully, times have changed and there are lots of puzzle options and girl options for video games now.

One neat puzzle video game is called American Mensa Academy. This game is available on PC, 3DS and Wii. It’s rated E (for everyone) and can be played by up to four people (for the wii version, at least). It has over 100 different puzzles and  mini-games from categories such as literacy, numeracy, logic, memory and visual & spatial. Some of the games are basic ones such as ABC order, subtraction, fractions, etc. These would be great educational games for children who are learning about these subjects as well as good refreshers for kids who have the down pat but need to get their brain working at home, perhaps during summer break or on weekends.

The original plan was to do this review and giveaway before Christmas, when I knew I’d be able to review this with my teenage niece who loves puzzle games. It didn’t come in time and I haven’t been able to see her, so I have not tested this game first hand. My niece enjoys puzzle games though, and sees how there are so any games included on the disc I’m sure she’ll find some that she loves. Mensa Academy is made by Maximum Games who has other video games as well, some of which are other puzzle games.
