I live in an apartment, which means I am unable to paint my walls. In my previous apartment, the walls were stark white, and got old very quickly. In my current apartment, we were lucky enough to get a nice off-white color for the walls, but after living here for two years, the same old walls start to get pretty boring.

Arise Decals offers a solution to boring walls, even for those living in apartments.  They have a wide variety of vinyl wall decals. These are designs, or quotes, you can put up on your walls, and they do not leave any residue when you remove them. This makes them perfect for apartment living. When it comes time to move, you can just take it down and there will be no residue, or nail holes to cover up.

I chose to review the Hummingbirds Wall Decal in metallic gold. Each design is available in a wide variety of colors. I found it was easy to imagine what the decal would look like on my wall in a black, or green, but when I saw metallic gold listed as an option, I found it hard to visualize. I wanted to pick this color to show what it looked like.

As you can see, the decal itself is really pretty. I liked the design when I saw it on the website, and like it even more now that it’s on my wall. The metallic gold color is also great. In the picture, you can see the variety of the color. With direct lighting on it, it looks bright, shiny, just like the actual metal. With indirect lighting, the decal is a bit darker, allowing you to really make out all the details of the design. I was worried that the gold might look like a fake gold, which can end up looking too yellow, or too bronze-like, but this color is very true to the metal, which makes it really beautiful.

I was also a bit worried when it came to putting up the wall decal. Our walls are pretty bumpy from texturing, and poor painting jobs, so I was worried the decal wouldn’t go on well. I enlisted my fiancé to help, but it was probably just a one person job.

The decal came with detailed, easy to follow instructions. They also have an installation video on their website. We cleaned off the wall, then taped up the decal. We peeled off the back, and then pressed the decal into the wall using a credit card, smoothing it onto the wall. We then peeled off the top, which leaves the decal on the wall.

There were a couple of times when the decal stayed stuck to the top layer. We just peeled it off the paper with the credit card, and then pressed it into the wall. In a few minutes, we were done. It was very simple. Our decal is nice and smooth. You can see the wall texture through the decal, but there are no extra bumps or bubbles. It looks great!

I’ve also found that once the decal is on the wall, it’s on the wall. I’ve been running my hands over it, bumping into the wall, and the decal stays in place. There’s no peeling back occurring in any spots, like you might expect from a wall sticker.

When it comes time to remove a decal, you can simply heat it up with a hair dryer, and it will pull right off. I know I will not be removing mine any time soon!
