junglebook

The Jungle Book movie was the first movie that I can remember seeing in theaters. The version I’m referring to was released on Christmas in 2004 – I was just barely 3.5 at the time. I don’t really remember the movie itself I just remember being so excited to go to the movie theater. Of course, the 1994 version wasn’t the first as it was originally released in 1967.

For more modern kids, The jungle book was also a TV show based off of The Jungle Book, it’s an animated series that started in 2010 and there has been over 50 episodes. Now, Walmart has released a The Jungle Book, The Movie. If you’re looking for a family-friendly movie for a family movie night, The Jungle Book is a great pick. It’s rated G, and at just 62 minutes long, it doesn’t drag on and leave little ones restless, but it’s long enough to have a full story and keep the adults entertained as well. The DVD comes with two figures – Baloo and Mowgli (designed for ages 3+). The figurines are great to keep hands busy while watching the film and allow play to extend even after the movie is over. It also has a downloadable activity kit.

I tried to put this in while watching my nephew Drew. He isn’t familiar with the previous Jungle Book movies and shows, so he wasn’t sure what to expect. He wasn’t very willing to watch it when I put it in, though he was tired and he tends to stick to just a couple of shows and rarely is interested in other things. I plan to try again when he isn’t tired to see if he’ll give it a shot then. Regardless, it’s a cute movie, he just clings to what is comfortable and familiar with him. I’m sure my other nieces and nephews would like it. It does a nice job of feeling similar enough to be enjoyed by old jungle book fans but is unique at the same time, so it doesn’t feel like you’re watching something you’ve already seen.

This will be available in stores starting February 12th – just in time for valentine’s day!
