*I was provided with a Teifoc set in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
I have two nephews who are getting a bit harder to shop for because they are nearly 8 and 9.5. They’re getting away from simpler toys and while it’s a bit harder to find gifts for them, I’ve found myself really excited about the items I do find for them. One gift idea that I came across was Teifoc sets. There are so many building sets out there for kids of all ages, but a lot of them feel pretty much the same. Teifoc stands in its own category because instead of being plastic bricks, they’re actual clay bricks – that you put together with mortar! This is particularly neat for my almost-8 year old nephew because his father works in construction. He doesn’t build brick buildings, but I think it’ll still be of particular interest for him because he gets to build a building like his dad. I can see my brother getting really involved with doing this project with him, making it a great bonding experience, too!
Teifoc has lots of sets to choose from but we were sent the Teifoc Watermill set which includes everything you need to create a small building with a watermill on the outside. The sets are reusable, too. Once you’re ready to take your creatin down you just soak it into water and the mortar dissolves. Once the bricks dry you can do it all over again. If you run out of mortar you can order just the mortar so that you can keep reusing your bricks.
In addition to being fun, they can so easily be made educational as well. They are a great experiment in architectural basics, construction and design. Having a Teifoc set could even come in handy for school projects! I remember struggling to try to create shelters for projects as a kid – it would have been nice to make a brick building with Teifoc instead.
You can find Teifoc sets on their website, Amazon, Walmart, Toys R US and more.
