My boyfriend & I are self employed. For the most part, it’s an incredible experience for us. The biggest downside to being self employed is struggling to find a suitable health care option. We’ve went without healthcare coverage in the past because we were unable to afford the health insurance options that are available to those self employed. We have had to really weigh whether or not to go to urgent care or the ER if we got sick or hurt on a weekend or after office hours, or whether we should wait until Monday for our regular doctor to be open because an ER visit is roughly double what our doctor charges. There were times where I really wished that we had the ability to see our regular doctor, for the price of an office visit after hours or on the weekends.
Doctor On Demand is an app that connects you directly to a US licensed, board certified doctor. You get to video chat with the doctor for 15 minutes for $40, which is roughly the cost of an office visit for us. Friday afternoon, Ryan recently developed a rash. So instead of waiting until Monday (today) to get into our regular doctor, or paying double to go to urgent care or the ER, we tried out Doctor On Demand. It only took a few minutes to set up a profile, fill out Ryan’s symptoms from a checklist and get connected with a doctor.
The doctor that we were connected with asked Ryan questions about his rash such as when it started, if it itched, burned, etc. Our tablet is a really cheap one so the video quality wasn’t good enough for the doctor to get a good look at the rash from the video. He had us take a photo of the rash with a tool available in the app and send the photo to him. This gave him a much better idea of what the rash looked like. After the call was over, we were able to rate the doctor and save him to our favorites. So if you have a great experience and want to use the same doctor in the future, you’ll be able to access that specific doctor if they are available at that time.
Doctor On Demand is a great service for more minor problems such as cold, flu, rash, pink eye, etc. If needed, they can prescribe you a medication that you can pick up at your local pharmacy. It should not be used for serious health problems such as seizures, chest pain, series injuries or broken bones. The app is available through android (DOD In The Play Store) and ios devices (DOD on iTunes).

i like that this would really help me because right now I am without insurance and it would cost me a fortune to go the doctor.
-
it will help any medical problem or ilness my family have.

Now I can talk to a board certified doctor from anywhere by using the “Doctor On Demand” App! Cool!

I like that it could be available when you are away from home and can’t get to your regular doctor.

I like that the ap is available when you need it, so for a fraction of the cost of an ER visit, not to mention the waiting and inconvenience of going out for something, not life-threatening, but more than minor you can get a consultation with a real DR.

I like the cost and convenience the best. It’s such a hassle to make an appointment and sit in a waiting room for a non emergency and it’s way cheaper than my copays!

i like that if i can use this app before even going to the doctor. that it would give me a sense of relief to see if i even needed to go and spend my time and money.
-
this would be handy since we live in the country and are about an hour from our doctor or any hospital!

I love that you are able to ask questions and receive answers from the comfort of your home! I’m soo self conscious about going to the doctor about anything, so this is awesome!
I like that it’s mobile so if I am at work (no internet) and feel really badf, I can access this app. Thanks.
