Levana’s tagline is “Do more knowing your child is safe.” I was able to check out the new Levana Astra video baby monitor and I completely agree with their tagline.
The Levana Astra set comes can be ordered with a single camera or two cameras. The monitor is 3.5 inches which is a great size for being able to easily see the display. To start using the set you keep the monitor and cameras near each other, then push a button on the monitor that lets it ‘search’ for cameras nearby. Then you push a button on the bottom of the camera and hold until the monitor picks it up. Once the monitor has synced with the camera it will start displaying the camera feed right away.
There are several light settings available so you can adjust the screen to see your little one whether the room they are in is light or dark. In fact, the monitor can let you see your baby from up to 12 feet away even if the room is completely dark because it uses invisible infrared LED technology. The monitor has a microphone and microphone button so you can talk to your little one from a room or even a floor away. It has a power saving mode that lets the set work for up to 48 hours between charges. The power saving mode is called PEEP and automatically turns off if the display doesn’t detect any sound in the nursery, but once there is a ‘peep’ in the room it will turn back on so you can see (and hear) the activity.
My living room and kitchen are right next to each other, but the wall is thick so it’s really hard to hear what is going on in the next room. I often find myself wanting to cook or clean in the kitchen while babysitting. The kids are usually in the living room and it makes me uncomfortable to not know what they are up to. I decided to set one of the Levana Astra cameras on top of my TV to do a test run because it’s in a corner that lets you see the entire living room but is also close to the kitchen. I was so impressed with how much I could access by using the panning feature of the monitor. It lets me see my entire living room and it even tilts enough to peek into the kitchen! If you have two rooms that your little one accesses like their bedroom and playroom, or a bedroom and a living room that are near each other you can place the camera in the corner of one room near the door and be able to access both rooms on your monitor because it has a 300 degree rotation from side to side.

In addition to being able to scan so far left and right, it can also scan up and down 110 degrees, and can zoom in. The zoom is a simple button push on the monitor. The scan functions make this monitor not just for babies who are napping but also little ones who are crawling or even walking because you can scan your entire room with the monitor. Think about how much time you would save without having to check on your little one to see if they are still sleeping, or playing! This is where that phrase ‘do more’ comes in – you get to do more when you can step a bit further away from your little one without worrying about their safety.

The colors on the monitor are clear and accurate. It reminds me a lot of the display on my digital camera. It’s not grainy or limited in color like older baby monitors were. All Levana cameras and monitors are digital and cord-free so there is no risk of cord strangulation. In fact, back in 2002 the first ever wireless handheld baby video monitor to hit the market was from Levana!
If your little one is soothed by music, there is even a lullaby option that you can select from your monitor to have the camera play for your little one. It just might buy you time or even save you a trip to re-settle your little one.
The fact that Levana talks with real moms about what they want to see in baby products is no surprise to me after seeing this camera. It’s clearly made with the functionality that moms want and need. Plus, they produce only baby monitors so the entire brand is focused on just one type of product and that focus clearly pays off.
If you want camera access in multiple rooms, you can add up to four cameras that you can access through your monitor so you can see your little one while they are playing, sleeping, eating and more.
