Ryan has wanted to have a garden forever now. We planted a balcony garden back in 2012, I think it was. While we were out of state for a weekend, a huge storm came in with really high winds. When we go back, our pots had been upturned. We tried repotting, but we only go a couple of veggies. 

About four years ago we started tilling part of our yard that we were renting, and before we go seeds in the ground our landlord told us they were selling the house, so we didn’t plant anything as we wouldn’t be there for the whole summer anyway. 

The house we’re renting now is in town, so gardening in the yard is not allowed.

This summer my daughter and I did a fun activity we called “Letter Of the Day”. We got the idea from Sesame Street. Each weekday we would focus on one letter of the alphabet. It took us about five weeks to get through all 26 letters. We practiced writing the letter, found objects beginning with the letter, talked about animals names that began with the letter, read books with the letter in the title, made the letter out of different items such as toys and play doh, ate food that started with the letter, did crafts and activities that began with the letter, and much more.

I remember my grandmother making ‘refrigerator pickles’ when I was little. I have always loved the sweet, vinegary taste. I feel like they go well with almost any meal! Now that it is cucumber season here, I made my first batch of refrigerator pickles today, and wanted to share the recipe with you!

Ingredients you will need:
7 Cups Cucumbers (Thinly Sliced)
1 Cup White Onion (Thinly Sliced)
1.5 Cups White Sugar
1 Cup Vinegar
1 Tablespoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Celery Seed
1 Teaspoon Mustard Seed

From the time I had my first baby 8 years ago I was always making sure that the product I used on him were natural. I started with Pampers sensitive brand and when I found something more natural I kept switching. For the first year I used water wipes with my youngest. I’ve been doing the curly girl method for a little over a year now. Shortly after discovering the curly girl method I discovered the DevaCut, which is a dry curl cut that you can get from people who were trained through the DevaCurl program.

Being from Minnesota, you’d think I’d finally get used to the long winters.  Yet sadly, I don’t think I ever will.  In the fall, once it starts dropping to 60 degrees, I’m freezing and quick to dig out my winter coat.  It just seems to take me a few months to get my “winter legs” back.  But at least by this time of year, 40 degrees now feels warm and you’ll see people walking around without coats.

1. Prep your workspace. Remove any/all old flooring. Then sweep or vacuum your works space to remove all dust and debris. Take the time to pull any loose staples or nails that may be in your subfloor.

About a year ago, my two daughters and I started making air fresheners. We loved doing the project together and enjoyed being able to have fresh seasonal scents throughout our home. This is a super easy project for kids of all ages to help with. This project is also really versatile. You can make the jars fit the season or your personal decor. Homemade air fresheners are also fun to give as gifts.

You will need-
Jars- I like to use jelly jars
Spray paint (optional)
Baking soda
Essential oils in your desired scents
Coffee filters, burlap or other thin fabric
A rubberband
Twine, decorative ribbon, or canning jar ring

Directions-

Wash and dry your jars really well.

This year marks the first year I will be homeschooling my children aged 6 and 3. While I do have some doubt in my mind I am doing me best to remind myself that I am my child’s best teacher. Our philosophy of school is to make and keep learning fun and within our real everyday life. Given that school starts in fall we decided to start our projects surrounding the fall theme. First we printed out a leaf identification booklet so that we could collect leaves from our trees within our yard and identify what types they were.

I visit a lot of shabby chic sales. I love the creativity people have when reusing products. My favorite it when something rusty is combined with something a little fancy. I call it naughty and nice decor. Anyways, at one of last year’s fall shows, I saw where the vendor had used rusty canning rings to make these adorable rustic pumpkins. She had them as pumpkins, but they could easily be apples too. After thinking about those canning ring pumpkins for almost a year, I decided to make them.
