I’m pretty excited to tell you all about this product. I stumbled on it just a couple of days before my new nephew Gabe was born. The shutterbuddy is a tool that is strapped around a regular camera or video camera and is used to capture the attention of newborns. One person left a testimonial on the shutterbuddy website that said this product worked on her 8 day old baby! The design is black and white, and then the outside edge is red.
Part of why I thought this product might truly work, when I first saw it was the colors used. I had remembered learning in my early childhood development classes that black white and red are the easiest colors for newborn babies to see.
When this product arrived I wanted to try it right away, even though Gabe was only about a week old. However, the first time he came over after this arrived, he was asleep the whole time. Oh well, next time, I thought. Well, he came over two or three more times but still was always asleep. However, last week he finally came over and was awake! I strapped the shutter buddy on my camera and tried it out.
TO be honest, at first I couldn’t tell for sure if it was working. He did seem to look at the camera a bit more, but only for a few seconds. So I took the shutter buddy off of my camera, and held it to one side. Then, when he seemed to be looking at it, I moved it down a little. His eyes moved down! So this really does work. However, at least with Gabe who was approximately 4 weeks old, it only was able to capture his attention for maybe 4-5 seconds at a time. He still is super young though, and I think that as he gets a bit older it might be able to keep his attention for longer periods of time.
If you go to the shutterbuddywebsite you can see how well the shutterbuddy works on a 3 month old in a video that they show. I think this will be great once Gabe gets a bit older.
