We all know that there are good people everywhere in the world, but sometimes we get so caught up in the bad things that we forget about all the good things people are doing. Our kids are the same way. Your little ones may not watch the news or know exactly what goes on in the world around them, but they do listen to the conversations we have with others. Unfortunately, they do know that there are people who choose to make bad choices.
Good People Everywhere, written my Lynea Gillen and Illustrated by Kristina Swarner, takes out all of the bad in the world. It reminds us that there are good people all over the world and it helps our children realize that there are good people all around them.
I read Good People Everywhere myself before reading it to Little C. To be honest with you, there are people mentioned in the book that I tend to look over as doing good works. I know, it is a sad reality and to be honest I was quite ashamed of myself. As adults we get caught up in our daily lives and all of the horrible things happening in the world instead to trying to see the good in people. A few days after reading the book Little C asked if we could read his new book. I sat him in my lap and read the title to him and he immediately said, “People do bad stuff too.” That comment broke my heart. I told him that he was right, but that there were no bad people in this book. Good People Everywhere talks about carpenters that help restore buildings after storms, teachers, farmers and even kids helping each other feel better. There are a couple of activities in the back of the book that you can do with your children that will help them understand who the good people in their neighborhoods are as well. Little C has enjoyed his book and loves having it read to him.
Good People Everywhere may be a children’s book, but it is a good read for adults as well. This is a great book to add to your collection for your children and grandchildren!
