*I was sent a variety of Bic brand items for review. All opinions are my own.
Back to school is right around the corner and parents everywhere are in school shopping mode. I was able to try out some back to school products from Bic recently and was excited to see some of their offerings. I’ll be honest – prior to getting this package I used to think of Bic as that company that makes really simple pens that come in packs of 10 for under $2. I have purchased those super affordable pen packs so many times because they’re just so affordable and great to have on hand. However, limiting my idea of Bic to those is really naive! They have a massive selection of writing utensils – including my favorite, super affordable ones but also retractable ballpoint pens, fountain pens and gel ink pens, just to name a few. They also have a nice line of pencils (traditional and mechanical), markers (regular markers, dry erase and highlighters), correction products and more.
The package that I was sent included everything pictured below – lots of pens, some mechanical pencils and some highlighter tape. Seems how I’m not in school, I didn’t have a use for the highlighter, and I’m not one to use mechanical pencils so I offered a few of these items to my niece and nephew who will be heading back to school in September and will put those items to great use.
I kept several of the packs of pens for myself, you can see them and the way that they write in the image above. From the time that I was a child, I’ve always loved colored-ink pens and Bic has several varieties of pens that write in colored ink. While I never hated school, school work itself was rarely fun for me but I knew it was important. I figured that if I have to write an essay or do a math problem, I might as well lighten things up a bit with making my writing utensil and color fun, right? So I usually used purple ink pens. I also love to doodle with various colored ink pens even now. I love color but crayons and even colored pencils make such thick lines – having pens with colored ink open up forms of art that aren’t possible with other utensils.
The Bic Round Stic Grip pens that I received in colored ink are similar to the super affordable packs of pens that I mentioned above that I have used for years, except instead of being blue, black or red ink they include four colors (purple, pink blue and green).
The Bic For Her Gel Pens that I recieved came in a two pack, one that writes purple and one that writes in pink. These have a subtle but pretty print on them and feel really cozy in my hand. The colors, print and shape of them gives them a feminine classy look that I really like. The ink in these seems more “watery” or liquid than the others.
I was also sent a three pack from the Bic For Her line – these ones are called marker pens and the set had a black ink, purple ink and pink in pen included. The shape of the pen is rather straight and the print on the front is squirly and whimsical. The bottom of the pens are colored to match the ink inside so its easy to tell at a glance which one you have. They have a very fine tip but are felt tips like markers on the end so they will bleed if held in place on paper. They have nice, dark print that is darker than the other pens.
The last item that I personally tried was the Bic Roller Neon Z4 package that includes purple, pink, orange, green and blue. These pens feel comfortable in my hand and like the For Her Gel Pens, their ink seems liquidy and comes out really easily – these aren’t the type of pen that would cause you to need to scribble to get them going. The orange pen ink is very “neon” and I found it hard to read but the others are really easy to read. The blue is a light, fun blue that you rarely see in pen ink. The outside of the pens represent the ink inside.
I am really happy with all of the pens that I was sent – as far as back to school, I am sure that most any kid would because the colors are just so fun and they write well. If you purchase Bic products this back to school season, check the packaging for labels for education that you can cut off of the packaging and send in to your school to help earn them money.
