My family enjoys music. We love having tunes flowing through our home daily whether it be from the piano, radio, cd’s, musical instruments, or now keyboard. Everyone, even our youngest who is 1, enjoys exploring the musical world. We enrolled in a local Kindermusic class a couple years ago when one was offered and it was amazing to see how all the children interacted and learned through the duration of the class. At the end, our 3rd child was about to turn one and it was truly a joy to see him understand, explore, and join in the lessons. I’m hoping there will be another offered in our area because I will be the first to register! Since that’s not an option at the moment, though, I love to offer our children other musical outlets. I have a box of instruments: bells, triangle, drums, maracas, and more readily available but I am always looking for additions. When I learned that Casio offers some great musical products, I was happy to partner with them for this review of their lighted keyboard.
The LK-165 Lighted Keyboard from Casio is a 61 key keyboard that boasts lighted keys. Upon pulling out of the box, all I had to do was slide the music bar holder on and plug in the ac adapter. Turn it on and it was all set to go. The LK-165 has many features including: 110 songs, 400 on-board tones, 150 rhythms and more. Honestly, I was a little overwhelmed when I first saw all the options and buttons but it seems to be fairly easy to function the more we use. Casio has also included a song book that corresponds with the 110 pre-programmed songs.
As soon as I had it plugged in and turned on, the kids couldn’t keep their hands off. We had a three person keyboard band for awhile. Now that I have had time to play as well, we are learning some of the functions. Our oldest is 8 and she is really enjoying the teaching function so she can try to learn new songs. It’s pretty simple to set up. Push a button, type in the number for which pre-programmed song you want to work on, and follow along. The lighted keys make it quite easy. Another favorite function is the game. You are graded on how well you can follow along and play. Another couple of helpful features that the LK-165 offers is voice teaching and a metronome. The keyboard will tell you which finger to play as the key lights up and the metronome helps you keep a steady rhythm. The screen also has a graphic to follow showing which fingers are to play each note as well. While we have not been able to master all that the LK-165 has to offer, we are definitely having a great time learning.
The Casio LK-165 Lighted Keyboard would make a great gift for this holiday season or any time through the year. While it has many great features and additions for well-versed players, it’s easy for beginners to be able to just practice and play on as well. I’m excited to continue learning all that the LK-165 has to offer.
