These are my own honest opinions.

Eating healthy is a priority for many people. But how about cooking with natural and safe products? Emile Henry, a French company founded in 1850, makes high resistance oven ceramic from local resources: non-treated clay, sand, and filtered water. To get their distinctive vibrant-colored glazes, they use mineral oxides. Their products contain no lead, no cadmium and no nickel so there is no risk of contamination.

You’ll find casseroles, onion soup bowls, tagines, pizza stones, ramekins, mixing bowls, and much much more. They have 4 different collections: Natural Chic (earth tones), Urban Chic (modern colors such as apple green and raspberry), Classic (bright yellow, red, blue, etc), and Flame Cookware (black, olive, red, etc).

For this review, I received the beautiful Flame Round Dutch Oven/Stewpot in Figue (purple color). First of all, the color! Wow! Purple is my favorite color so it was love at first sight. This stewpot is designed specifically to cook simmered meat, fish and vegetables by slowly diffusing cooking heat to its center. It can also be used to bake desserts, make caramel, and much more.

This stewpot is round and measures 11 inches in diameter. It has a 7 quart capacity which is a great size to make a family meal (with some left overs.) I love that this stewpot can endure the most extreme thermal shocks (from 0°F/20°C to 930°F/500°C). It can go directly from freezer to oven, microwave, or cooktop. It can even be put directly on the BBQ. The clay also retains heat well so food stays hot for longer even if you bring it to the table and use it as a serving dish – it’s so pretty, that’s what you’ll want to do!

You can use a lower heat setting and let it simmer all day without worrying about oxidizing the food (which would happen with products that contain metal) so foods retain all their nutrients and vitamins. The glaze works like a non-stick coating: food doesn’t adhere to it. That’s great news because it means I don’t need to use a lot of fat to prevent food from sticking and I don’t need a lot of elbow grease to clean it. In fact, all Emile Henry products are dishwasher-safe so you won’t need any elbow grease at all to keep it nice and shiny!

Emile Henry’s products are highly durable. They don’t chip or crack easily nor will they scratch even if you can directly on them. Emile Henry believes in the quality of their products and backs them with a 10 year limited warranty against breakage due to defective workmanship.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this stewpot. It’s well designed, durable and safe. I can’t believe that it can go from freezer to hot oven and that it can even go on the cooktop and the BBQ. I love that I can use it as a beautiful serving dish as well – they offer so many colors, you’ll probably find one to match your dining room decor. Plus, the glaze coating make cleaning a breeze!
