My niece Ava turned 7 last week and for a few years now she’s been a huge animal lover. She went through a huge horse obsession for several years. Then she went through a rabbit/bunny phase and now she’s primarily interested in cats and dogs. She has tons of cat and dog stuffed toys and figurines already so I hadn’t really come up with a gift idea for her until I found the Barbie Hug n Heal Pet set from Kid Designs. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was perfect for her.
The Hug & Heal Pet Doctor set includes a bag that the puppy can fit in but it also has storage space for the accessories that come with it – a stethoscope, syringe, bottle, rawhide bone, bottle, thermometer, tissue, birth certificate and prescription pad. I knew this would be perfect for Ava because she likes wrapping blankets around her arms or legs to pretend she has a broken body part, or use thermometers with dolls or stuffed toys. The puppy’s front leg has extra fabric that can be flipped over the paw to create a “cast” or flipped the other way to make it appear like a regular leg. So I knew that combining her love of playing doctor and/or vet with a dog – one of her current favorite animals would be a win.
In addition to being able to use your imagination to pretend with the accessories, some of them cause the dog to respond. Touching the dogs head, back or front paw can cause it to react with sneezes, barks, panting or wimpering. If you put the bottle or bone to its mouth it makes eating/drinking noises and if its nose is glowing red, use the tissue to wipe its nose and it’ll go back to black.
A lot of toys that respond electronically to toy accessories have a really stiff, mechanical feel. This dog is really plush like a regular stuffed animal making it more cuddly and natural feeling.

My 3 year old nephew really likes to play doctor and dentist with other kids or stuffed toys (like wrapping his stuffed bears arm up in a cast or saying that one of his dolls has a tummy ache so she needs to go to the doctor and get meds, etc) so he would enjoy this too. 🙂

I know it has Pink on it, but I think my younger guys would love playing with this little puppy. Would be a nice nurturing toy for any young dog lovers, and future vets. I like that you can store everything in the carrying to pack it away when not playing with it.
