I’ve heard about so many types of subscription boxes and while the idea of a surprise in the mail sounded fun, the cost of the boxes vs the potential for not liking or being interested in using the products included has scared me off. Well, I won a Bark Box subscription a while back and i’ve enjoyed it so much that I decided to share my experience with you guys.

I was right that the boxes would be a fun surprise but I’ve enjoyed them even more than I expected. I’ve found that for a few days prior to the boxes arriving I think about our box and wonder what will be included. The boxes get mailed out on the 15th and ours arrived about 3 days later. We’ve gotten two boxes now, one in November and one this month and we’ve enjoyed and been able to use all of the products in every box! I think a big reason why is because BarkBox offers 3 different boxes, one for small dogs (20 lbs and less) one for medium dogs and one for large dogs. My dogs are 20 and 25 lbs so based on their weight I probably could have went with the medium boxes but my dogs are easily intimidated by toys that aren’t little, so I was afraid that going with a medium box would get us sent toys that they’d be afraid of. I feel like it was a good decision for us to go with a small box because the toys have been a great size for them and the treats have been fine for them also.

This month our box had a barkworthies junior bully stick, a simply fido organic toy (plush on a rope), a GoDog yeti plush toy, planet dog eats treats, and bistro bites treats.

My dogs are picky when it comes to toys but both toys were small enough to not intimidate them. The squeaker in the yeti toy drew Frank’s attention right away and the Simply Fido toy has a rope that we can kind of dangle in their face to get them to play with us. The planet dog treats are peanut butter flavored which my dogs love and they’re a great size for my small dogs – they’re thin so I don’t feel like I need to break them in half like I do most other treats. The bistro bites treats are really small which make them great for training. My dogs were really drawn to the scent/flavor of these.

As i was trying to lay all the items out for a photo, Beans grabbed the bully stick and ran off. This is the first time I have ever seen her take a treat or chew that was not directly handed to her. Even if a treat or bone is laying on the ground, she will just leave it there until you tell her its okay or hand it to her directly. She sat and chewed on the bully stick for a really long time and she was just chewing in such a passionate way that I knew she was enjoying it way more than a typical bully stick so I decided to look it up to see what might be unique about it. It turns out that junior bully sticks from Barkworthies are made from bladder as opposed to being true pizzle sticks, but it lasted just as long as a regular bully stick would so i’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for deals on these as she just devoured it.

The total value of the box is $28.78 and if you subscribe for a single month the cost is $29 but shipping is free, but if you subscribe for 3 months your cost per box is $24/month or just $19 a month if you subscribe for six months. Thinking about trying BarkBox? Sign Up here and with my special link you’ll save $10 on your order – meaning you can do a single month for $19 shipped or save $10 over the total cost of your subscription if you do more months at once.
