*I was provided with a FURminator in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.
Before I even had a dog, I had heard about the FURminator and how it really shouldn’t even be called a dog brush because it deserves to be in a category all its own, because it works SO well. Granted, I had a close friend who worked at a pet store which is how I heard this but still. My dogs are pugs and they do shed (I’m not sure why the idea that pugs are a non-shedding breed gets passed around) but I wouldn’t say that the shed excessively. Still, I’d like to cut back on as much of their shedding as possible when I brush them because then there is less to clean up off the carpets, etc.
There are two sets of FURminators, one for long and one for short hair. There are also various sizes of brushes based on your dogs size. For my pugs, we were sent the Small Short Hair FURminator. I used it before their baths and while I didn’t get gobs of fur like some people do with a FURminator, I got a decent amount of fur each time that I pulled it across their fur. We’ve tried 3 other types of brushes and with them, i’d usually have to run it along their back 2-3 times to get a build up of fur. So for me it was obvious that this brush it more efficient.
Franks neck fur is quite different than beans’ – Franks is “fluffier” where as beans’ is a bit silkier, like the fur on the rest of their bodies. The FURminator works GREAT on franks fluffy neck fur, it always pulls lots of hair from there. Based on this, I think that dogs with that more fluffy, less silky fur would have huge success with FURminators.
There is a button on the back of the brush that pushes the fur off of the tooth of the comb so you don’t have to grab it which is nice. Some other brushes that I have used on the dogs will scratch them, causing their skin to appear reddened after being brushed and this one doesn’t do that. It’s really nice to have found a brush that efficiently removes their extra fur without scratching them.
The FURminator claims to eliminate shedding by up to 90%. It’s a bit hard to tell if they are shedding less or not, but it’s a possibility. Even just as use as an alternative to our regular brush, I really like the FURminator. If you have a dog, especially one who sheds a lot i’d definitely recommend giving them a try.

Mine is more silkier too, I like the handle on this, looks easier to handle than the one I have. Mine is like a comb and this looks like it won’t wear your hands out.
