Thank you to Baby’s Journey for providing me with a sample, free of charge, for review. All opinions are my own.
At the moment, our youngest is about 22 months old. Just recently, he became a little Houdini. Not only can he get into our cabinets that are secured with child locks, he has also learned how to open the doors to go out of the house. Granted, we didn’t have any door locks on the house doors because the plastic seems to wear out over the years and all of our previous ones had broken, however, I didn’t think he’d be able to figure the knobs out. While this would be a big problem in any home, it’s very scary for me because we live on a farm where we have big tractors, trucks, and other machinery running and coming in and out of our driveway daily. I needed to find a solution and fast! (Just a month ago, I borrowed out all of our gates because I thought we wouldn’t need one till after the baby came. Now I was in dire need!) Thankfully, I came across Baby’s Journey and their One Step Gate and they agreed to partner with me for this review.
The day before the gate arrived, our little guy actually made it out of the house, through the garage, and was playing in the rain out front by the time I caught him. So, even though my husband was not in the house to help me, I decided to get this gate installed with the help of my 6 1/2 year old. Thankfully, there were no tools needed and step by step instructions that included photos. We had some trial and error trying to get the gate even so it would latch correctly but after about 15 minutes, we had it up. The pictures really came in handy! I really like when a company includes well-given instructions.
The “One Step Gate” comes with two extension sides so it is able to accommodate a span from 30” – 46”. There is a handy guide in the instructions that tells you which or both extensions, if any, are needed based on your doorway. We needed to use the 8″ extension for our doorway.
He thought he was pretty smart as we were putting the gate up. Not quite so happy once he realized what it was!
The Baby’s Journey “One Step Gate” is very solid and can be opened with one hand. While our 3 1/2 year old can run it, our youngest can not. (Although he does try.) My husband and I both agree that this is our favorite gate that we have ever owned. The design and colors blend in enough with our home that I don’t feel like I’m in a daycare center and it’s easy to use.
I really like that this is a pressure mounted gate as I didn’t want to screw anything to my doorway or walls. The installation was fairly easy and the results are great. Our little man is now banished from the entry leading to the door and I have the peace of mind knowing he is safe.

I’m a city girl turned country by my awesome husband and we have three busy boys and two darling daughters. I love spending time with my family, reading Karen Kingsbury novels, and catching up with friends while our kiddos have play dates. I’m blessed beyond measure and can’t wait to see what God has in store.
