Nenuco baby doll

For most of my childhood, baby dolls were my favorite type of toy. I loved them so much as a child that I get excited when I have the chance to share that enjoyment with my nieces or other children in my life. Kelsie is now 16 months old and while most of what she tries to say is still hard to understand,s he says “baby” very clearly. I have a plush rattle-style doll that she always shrieks “baby” at. She picks it up and says “baby” towards it but that had been the extent of her play with it. I knew that she was coming up on the age of being able to understand pretend play, so I thought that getting her a doll that had accessories or featured that allowed her to pretend might be ideal.

Nenuco has the My Little Nenuco doll that is suggested for ages 3+ but I decided to let her try it out with careful supervision. The reason My Little Nenuco caught my eye was because it comes with a pacifier that fits inside the baby’s mouth. Kelsie knows what pacifiers are so I thought she might grasp pretending to give the baby her pacifier through play. As soon as she saw that the doll had a pacifier she tried to put it into the baby’s mouth, she clearly understood what it was. Just like I had hoped, this doll aided in extending her pretend play by allowing her to use the pacifier in her play. The doll is recommended for ages 3+ but I found the doll to be a good size for Kelsie. The doll is small enough for her to easily carry around. The head, lower arms and legs are plastic while the torso area is soft. Even though the head is plastic, it will compress pretty easily when pressure is applied so I don’t worry about her getting too hurt if she were to fall while carrying the doll. The pacifier is connected to the doll’s outfit and the outfit is not removable, so the pacifier can’t get lost. The doll has a gentle but sweet smell to mimic a real baby. Kelsie is more drawn to her My Little Nenuco doll than the other two dolls that we have. Part of this could be because it has the pacifier, as she does play with that part of it a lot. She also seems to be drawn to this dolls eyelashes which are fake-hairs instead of just being painted on. This doll is always the one that she picks up first when she comes over so I think it’s safe to say it is her favorite.

Nenuco kisses doll

We were also sent My First Nenuco Kisses. This doll is suggested for ages 2+, so again, I went against recommendations by allowing her to play with the doll while closely supervised. This doll appeals to me because it’s closer to realistic baby proportions than most dolls are. It has a large head and upper body like real newborns. It has a noticeable sweet, pleasant smell. When you squeeze the doll’s left foot, her mouth makes a noise that is designed to sound like a kiss. To me, it sounds like a click so I am not sure that most young kids would realize it was a kissing sound but Kelsie is far too young for that aspect anyway. The thumb on the dolls left hand fits into her mouth so she can suck her thumb, a cute feature for girls who might know babies who are thumb suckers. Her outfit is removable so you can swap out her outfit with others that you might have at home. This doll is a little bit on the large size for Kelsie to carry around right now but as I mentioned, it’s not designed for children as young as Kelsie anyway. It’s a really cute doll, I am sure it will get a lot of play once Kelsie is a bit older and bigger.
