Ah balance bikes, I’m sure you’ve heard of them! If not ill give you a run down of the basic principle. A bike without pedals designed to give young children and toddlers a head start on riding a bike by teaching them first to balance and coast confidently. I learned to ride a bike without training wheels, while it looked nowhere near as graceful as my sons learning I did eventually get it down. Balance bikes are the perfect balance(see what I did there?) between my experience and training wheels! The Skuut bike is a wooden balance bike that comes partially assembled for you.
When you open the box the contents inside are, directions, a few nuts and bolts with corresponding allen wrenches included as well as the main components of the bike itself. This bike only took me about ten minutes total to put together, which made my three year old pretty happy. The bike is aged for children 2-5 which, for the most part is pretty accurate. My son is three and the bike is set on the lowest settings and its fits just perfect. My 16 month old daughter however, it will be quite awhile until she takes this out for a spin.
Now my three year old has had a different brand of balance bike since he was about 16 months, so this wasn’t a new thing for him to try. As you can see here he had no problems getting used to it.
His main hobbies of the day are riding up and down our sidewalk finding hills and such to get extra speed, can you say mini heart attack? He has yet to actually wipe out in a whole two years! Not bad right? Maybe there is something to this balance bike business! So some of the main features of this bike is the obvious, that it is all wooden which we find to be pretty unique and a good lesson for our son to remember to put away his bike as it can’t be left out for long periods of time in the weather. Another cool point is that the tires are rubber and really hold air! There are a few things that I noticed between The Skuut bike and his other balance bike. The first is, the way this bike is designed has the center body piece connecting through the front tire piece, this does limit the mobility of the front wheel when it comes to steering. I found this to be a positive and a negative, for first timers it could work great so they don’t over correct a turn and wipe out. My three year old (lets continue to call him Big L from now on) is pretty experienced and made a comment along the lines of “its steering isn’t loose enough”. He is also a daredevil that rides as close to something as possible and turning at the last second, so this does limit that capability quite a bit. The other thing I noticed was that this bike is shorter and sits higher than his other, so while he’s almost maxed out in adjustments for his other balance bike this one is the perfect step up for continued use and growth. He really did transition with ease to this bike, besides the steering portion.
I’ve personally found balance bikes to be even more than they are cracked up to be and fully support their use! I love the confidence they give kids in the area of bike riding, so they are built up and ready by the time a pedal bike comes along! Skuut has offered to give one of you readers a balance bike as well!! So why not ditch the tried and untrue training wheel route?

It’s not just you, it’s a horrible website design. I don’t even see colors on it!

I’m definitely not seeing where to find the colors for it also.

It isn’t just you. The website is hard to maneuver! I like the wood finish!

It was really hard to find and see the color choices. I like the red seat.

this is too cute..my little ones would love
I would like blue if they have it. I do not care for the website because it is not easy to find choices or even see anything. Not sure if it is just me or what.
