I always say that education is best when learning is made fun. Kids and adults alike seem to be able to retain information better if it’s learned through a fun engaging way. It really makes sense though. I know I pay closer attention when I’m enthralled with a subject than times where I’m being forced to sit still and read a particular piece that offers no interest to me. So I strive to make learning fun for our children and often times, I turn to Lakeshore Learning to help me.
Lately, our children have been on a pirate kick so when I came across the Read Around The House! Treasure Hunt Game, I thought it would be the perfect time to check it out. Included with this game are 30 riddles/clues, a treasure chest, 30 gold coins, a fun pirate pouch, and a treasure chest (doubles as the box everything comes in). This game is geared for helping boost letter recognition, vowel sounds, and rhyming words as well as using team work if playing with a group.
While geared for ages 4 and up, our little guy just turned 3 last week and he had no problem playing along with his three older siblings since they took charge to read the clues and lead the way. I placed four coins at each clue so there was enough for each child to place one in the bag each but it’s really open ended and each family can customize how they want to play. The variety of clues allow me to pick where I want the kids to go and what skills I want to work on. Plus, if we ever get bored with the included clues, I can easily make spin-offs.
All in all, the Read Around The House! Treasure Hunt Game is a lot of fun. Younger kids can definitely play with assistance and older kids can manage independently once the clues and treasure are hid. It’s a great game that encourages kids to get up and move and they don’t even realize they are learning in the process! Enthusiastic thumbs up all around from our gang!
