I work from home.  When my family is away at work or school, my house is REALLY quiet…too quiet for me. I like and even need back ground noise when I work. If my house is quiet when I am trying to work, I have a hard time concentrating. After talking with a friend about missing the noise, she suggested I get a sound machine for my office. I reached out to Adaptive Sound Technologies; they were happy to send me one of their Sound+Sleep machines for my review.

The Sound+Sleep machine has 10 relaxing high quality SoundStories. Users can chose from train, meadow, ocean, fireplace, waterfall, city, rainfall, brook, meditation and white noise settings. An adaptive sound setting enables your machine to adjust sound levels according to your individual environment. Users can also set a sleep timer to turn the machine off after 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

I have never used a sound machine before so this was all new to me. I was pleased with the quality of sounds. I feel that the machine was clear and had a nice volume range. Two of my favorite sound settings are the fireplace and train. We recently moved to a new house. Our old house was near a train track. After several years of living there, I became accustom to the sounds of a train chugging along. When we moved, I didn’t think too much about not being by the train anymore. I have actually come to miss that sound though. My most used sound setting is the fireplace. I just love the sound of a crackling wood fire.

I have most of these sounds on CD and still love them. I have one DVD that plays a fireplace with crackling sounds of a fire! I think this would be relaxing to listen to and would consider it for a gift to someone else since I have most of the sounds already.
