Last night in bed, our oldest son was flipping through an old Highlights magazine and came across a recipe for Homemade Ice Cream. So when we went up to tuck the boys in and say goodnight, he was super excited and asked if we could try making it. So today, we checked the ingredient list and actually had the few things needed so we set about giving it a try.
Simple Homemade Ice Cream Recipe:
- Add 2 Tablespoons of Whole Milk in a saucepan.
- Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of Unflavored Gelatin on the milk.
- Let sit for 1 minute.
- Warm the mixture on low heat stirring constantly until gelatin dissolves.
- Remove pan from heat.
- Stir in 3 Tablespoon of Honey.
- Add 1/3 cup Evaporated Milk.
- Pour mixture into a shallow mixing bowl.
- Add 2/3 cup Whole Milk.
- Add 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract.
- Stir well.
- Cover and place bowl in the freezer.
- After 1 hour, check the mixture. If partly frozen, mix ice cream with an electric mixer until thoroughly fluffy. (If not partially frozen, put back in freezer for 1/2 hour and continue repeating until it is. Then do the beating to get it fluffy.)
- Cover and freeze the fluffy mixture for 2 additional hours or until frozen.
- Take out, let soften for a few minutes.
- Serve!
In the process of making our delicious homemade ice cream, we tested out the Kuhn Rikon Ratchet Safety LidLifter Can Opener. While we previously had an opener that left no sharp edges, it didn’t work well because it would only open about half the can no matter how many times I went around. So I was really excited to get this and see if it would work.
Our 8 year old was my tester and he was able to latch the LidLifter onto the can easily. Then he simply moved the ratchet handle up and down until it spun around the can. The mini-pliers gripper on the side works perfectly for gripping the lid and lifting it off easily. Plus, no sharp edges to worry about! This handy little tool worked awesome and I don’t have to be concerned about the kiddos cutting themselves.
I really like the design behind the Ratchet Safety LidLifter because my youngest kiddos enjoy helping out in the kitchen and this tool allows me one more job to offer them. The fact that it also has a grabber hook to open pop top cans is an awesome bonus!

It is not a stimulant itself, so as prolonged as you are not taking it in a kind that includes other stimulants you need to be fine.

I like the hands-free Standing Stainless Steel Strainer the most, because I make a lot of meals that call for its use, when the meal needs to be drier than the use of a colander.

The can opener looks fantastic, but I’m mostly impressed with how you managed to make ice cream without an ice cream mixer! Those are usually pretty expensive, so I might try this myself before buying one.
