I was sent a pair of Coastal glasses. All opinions are my own.

I have worn glasses full-time since I was 11 or 12 years old. Since then, my eyes have slowly gotten worse. Almost every year at my vision exam, I learn that I need glasses that are just 1 strength stronger than my previous pair. When I became an adult, I lost vision care coverage. I knew that my parents had paid over $300 for my glasses in the past. As a young college student, I didn’t have that kind of money and I knew contacts were even more costly. Plus, I’ve just always felt more comfortable both physically and emotionally in my glasses. So, I was really lucky to learn about how online glasses companies such as Coastal offer prescription glasses with lenses and frames at a price that is significantly less than what I was used to paying at my eye doctors office.

It had been about a year since my last exam, and I noticed I wasn’t seeing fine details of objects at a distance. It was time to get a new exam, so I went in and as expected I needed a slightly stronger prescription. Once I got my prescription from my eye-doctor, I went online to Coastal.com to pick out some glasses.

Many online eyeglass stores simply organize frames by size such as small, medium, or large. I’ve tried this in the past and have realized that this size method only factors in the overall width of the glasses, not how long the ear pieces are or how big the noise piece is compared to the width of the lenses. So when filtering my size, I still had to double-check the overall sizing to make sure they would fit, meaning it didn’t save me much time.

Coastal glasses has a size tool that is really efficient at saving time. It’s called the MyFit tool. You put in what size glasses you need, including the width of your nose bridge, width of your lenses, and the length of your ear pieces. Then it filters out frames that come in sizes that deviate from your size in any way, whether it’s ear pieces that are 10mm too long, or nose pieces that are too narrow. You can leave MyFit on and still filter by other factors, such as the material of glasses (I knew I wanted plastic frames) or shape, etc if you have an idea of what you’re looking for. It’s nice to be able to narrow down the selection to what you’re interested in because Coastal eyewear is the largest online retailer of glasses with over 1,500 frames to choose from! Even when filtering down by size, material and the shape I was interested in I had a great selection to pick from.

Once I was able to see frames within my size range, I settled on the Ray-Ban RX5246 frame. They were my size, and they were black, plastic frames with a rectangular shape which I love. The inside is blue, but you can’t see it much when the glasses are on. I liked how they are an opaque frame that don’t have a shine to them like many plastic frames do. To order I simply put in my prescription information and my address and submitted the order. I placed my order August 10th, and was given an estimated delivery date of August 25th, but they arrived early, on the 18th instead so it was only 8 days between ordering and delivery! The order automatically included a hard-shell eyeglass case and a cleaning cloth.

The Coastal glasses fit me perfectly. The ear-pieces are the perfect length so they don’t dig into my ears or slip when I look down or move around. The noise measurement is great so they stay snug (but not too tight) against my face. I’m also happy with the width and size of the frames and lenses compared to my overall face. The prescription is perfect so I can see even the finest details of objects in the distance again. I’m thrilled with my purchase, and the fact that they were $160 for the frames and that includes basic lenses means they are a great value. As I mentioned before, my parents had paid over $300 for my glasses in the past and those were for nameless brands – these are Ray-Ban glasses. However, if you do have trouble with an order, Coastal offers free returns.

Fall is a great time to get new glasses, especially for anyone who is heading back to school. Seeing as clearly as possible is so important for students. Plus, having a back-up pair is a great idea this time of year because children are more likely to damage their glasses when they are in school or sports.
