A few years ago I was somewhat of a coupon fanatic. I rarely bought anything without a coupon. I had average prices, sale prices, and “stockpile prices” memorized. I would sometimes switch brands based on sales or coupons, but only within the brands or products that I knew met my quality standards. If I could get a product really cheap, but it didn’t suit my standards then it wasn’t really a good deal anyway. My goal was to find that balance between price and quality, so I got the best overall value. I managed this pretty easily with most products.
One of the few products that I struggled to understand the “true” value of was toilet paper. There is a wide range of differences in thickness, softness, strength and roll size of different brands. I couldn’t simply get a good ‘value’ per roll because some brands have significantly larger rolls than others. I made the mistake of buying really cheap toilet paper on a few occasions that I realized was awful quality once I got home.
My goal with toilet paper is to find a brand of tissue that won’t break, and doesn’t bother my skin that is as affordable as possible. I don’t want tissue-paper like toilet paper, but I don’t want to pay more than I need to. I recently swapped out my toilet paper for new Charmin Essentials Strong. This toilet paper was created as a Charmin alternative to Scott® 1000.
Charmin Essentials Strong comes in VERY large rolls. Here is a comparison of my old toilet paper (left) with the new Charmin Essentials strong roll (right). The tissue is mid-weight in thickness, and is nice and strong. I’m pleased with the overall quality and the price is great, putting it right in that ‘ideal value’ range for me.
If you go for soft toilet paper over strong, Charmin also came out with Charmin Essentials soft as an alternative to Angel Soft®.

Charmin does make terrific paper. I do like the bear family and the commercials for it on TV also.

Yeah, the bear commercials for this really get my attention and are pretty cute. I often have coupons for Charmin and it’s a product I’ve used growing up as well, so I trust it.

I only use Charmin it really holds up and doesn’t come apart while wiping, which is great for my daughter who is learning to wipe herself.

Charmin is our go to toilet paper and has been for some time. I havent tried the ‘strong’ type like you mentioned just their normal one. It really is one of the essentials I will rarely buy a substitute for. I like the brand, and I like the results! Thanks for the heads up- they could send us a truckload 🙂
