As I’m preparing for the upcoming hustle and bustle that the holiday season brings, I’m trying to complete my Christmas shopping by the end of November. I really like to just slow down a little in December and getting the gifts out of the way is a huge help. While I’m not fully opposed to electronics and gadgets, I do put focus on finding gifts that offer simplistic, open ended play. Encouraging imagination means that the kids stay engaged and entertained longer as they can continue creating situations, solving problems, and finding new scenarios to enact. This means hours and hours of self-directed play!

Getting back to the basics with real natural wood pieces in these sets is a thrill for the kids and myself. The mixture of natural and bright colors is appealing but not overbearing. Imaginations can run wild!
The dolls and animals all feature hand painted wooden heads atop the bean bag style bodies. Kids are absolutely fascinated with them! Their design is easy to hold, move, and play with. Plus, they sit and lay easily and kids don’t get frustrated with them toppling over the way two-legged designs might.
Overall, I am super impressed with the MiO Collection. Manhattan Toy Company seemed to really put a lot of thought behind the designs and styles. So if you’re looking to get back to the basics of imaginative play, definitely check them out as I think they’d make a wonderful addition under the tree this year!

The more techy games I see, the more I long for those old-fashioned, battery-free toys like I played with. Any toy that encourages moving and building like these do, are great choices for a growing mind.
