Glaxy ZEGA

I was sent Galazy ZEGA products in exchange for inclusion in my gift guide. All opinions are my own.

My 6 year old nephew loves remote control cars and driving-based app games. He has one tablet game in particular that he plays all the time. It has two virtual controls, one that goes forward and back, and the other that lets the car spin. He can drive around the game exploring all kinds of terrain from large cities to rural areas, to mountains and beaches.

When I looked up Galazy ZEGA is struck me a combination of a remote control toy and my nephew’s app game that he enjoys. The Galaxy ZEGA Battlefield Bundle comes with the battlefield which consists of square titles with magnetic edges so they snap together very quickly and easily. Then “flanks” that are side barriers or walls. To get started I simply put the bottom pieces into a rectangle and then outlined the rectangle with flanks, leaving two extra flanks in the middle as barriers.

I personally haven’t spent much time playing video games so just learning to navigate around a couple of barriers was an ideal starting point for me. However, for people who are used to the controls you can make more complex designs that are more fun to navigate through.

You use a phone or tablet to download the Galaxy ZEGA app, and it will detect a nearby Galaxy ZEGA car. To play multiplayer, you need two devices and two battle toys. The play mode page on the app has two dials. The one on the left signals your car forward or backwards, while the other has left and right keys that will continually spin towards that direction when pressed. Last, there is a rocket booster button that you use when trying to charge forward at your opponent to wound them. If you simply bump into their car it won’t count as a hit, so you have to use the button while hitting for it to count.

There are two multiplayer modes. One is capturing the other users flag, while the other is simply a battle mode where you damage the other play through a few hits to win.

Galaxy ZEGA can also be played in single mode if you don’t have a friend around. This mode is more similar to a remote control toy and you can use the starter kit pieces to create fun mazes or tracks to drive through.

When you log into play, complete battles or win you earn gold coins that you can use for in-game upgrades to your weapons or to upgrade your defense, attack or speed.

Here is a quick video of Ryan and I trying to battle. He is used to playing video games so the controls had less of a learning curve for him than they had for me. He kept winning over and over! Feel free to laugh at me if you want. I was the blue one.

I know my remote-control car loving nephew will have a blast with this game. I think it will also appeal to older kids and teens though. Almost anytime that I’ve seen two kids with individual R/c cars they try to race and/or crash each other even though most R/c cars are not built to withstand that kind of treatment. ZEGA’S are designed for battle making it just as fun without the high risk of damage.

Right now the ZEGA & Battlefield kit is on sale for $50 off on the Galaxy ZEGA website.

This looks like a great game. Although, my nephew would have to teach me how to play this game.

This is a very different game and looks like you could even get some exercise playing it. The video looks fun too and I can see how this would entertain the kids.

Wow, this is an impressive game! My son is obsessed with all things cars and would absolutely love this game! I can’t believe I have never heard of it, thanks for sharing! It’s a little late for Christmas, but my son’s Birthday is the beginning of January. I think I know what I want to get him now! 🙂

I love how this combines video games with real objects! I have a godson to buy a birthday present for and this might be the perfect gift for him.

I was intrigued simply by the title. I love war/battle games and adding the RC touch to it just makes it better for todays kids. Might try to get my hands on one for my daughter although not sure she would like it as much as I would.
